A local stall holder told me this true story. He and another trader divided the fruit and veg between them. The stalls were right next to each other Each had exactly the same produce. One charged a bit more for each item. At the end of the day, the more expensive stall had sold out. The cheaper one didn't sell much at all.

Obviously you live in a richer part of the world than I do, but there again there are always people with more money than sense.
Wherever I've lived the cheaper stall would have sold out before lunch, then the other might get some business.
Note any story that starts by stating it's veracity is probably fictional.

It was a well known fact [in the distant past] that when retailers raise the price of something [clothing usually] people will automatically assume that those items are superior in some way, and will buy those rather then the lower priced ones, even if they all seem to be similar.
I think that's been clamped down on a fair bit now - although I expect with small shops selling fewer mass produced ranges, they can set the prices at any level they want.
It's the same principle though.

A good article about attempted press manipulation of politician's wives (though, of course, rarely husbands).

I didn't even know Mrs Starmer's first name till reading it. And that is as it should be, IMV. I've never laid eyes on his children ... and quite right too.

So, those of you who think voting for Farage is a good idea: don’t believe we should attempt to tackle climate change but should just live with it, and believe he can clear NHS waiting lists in 2 years.

I've swallowed a fly. I don't know why but I think I'll leave it at that. Horse meat doesn't appeal.

I know a person who knew Farrraaaasjzh when his name was pronounced farridge. He was just as big a p***k then as he is now.
Shame there's no Spitting Images anymore. He's not the only ideal candidate.

I'll vote for who I want to, I think that is the point of elections.
I dont come here to be swayed one way or the other.

I've not heard any of them come up with anything that is plausible yet, even the likes of Starmer is spewing dribble, the cons dont have a clue and the lib/dem article thinks he's Boris and thinks acting like an idiot is all it takes to get your vote.

A complete shambles, no wonder people start voting for strange parties, its very reminiscent of how Trump got in in America.
People want a change but there is no viable options, so they give a nutter a chance.;)

Absolutely agree, we should vote for who we want, but surely voting for someone who says we shouldn't try to tackle climate change, is insanity.

Its utterly surreal how he can be so against doing anything to tackle climate change, when climate change is the number 1 cause of mass migration, something he claims to be against. Does he think people are idiots?

What does he think people are fleeing from? Islamist insurgencies in Africa do not materialise out of nowhere. The Sahel region and the Horn of Africa are home to millions of people and there are simply not the resources to support them, because of extreme climate-driven droughts, famines and desperation. Scorching heatwaves, landslides and floods in places like Pakistan, the Philippines and Nepal force people to leave. It isn't difficult to find examples of displacement, why a migration crisis exists, and it is largely driven by Western consumer behaviour and exacerbated by carbon emissions. You won't change a thing without addressing the problem at source.

The argument against mass migration is a lot more complex than he makes out.

I can remember being a school in the 60s, and every year we had a charity that we collected for, Biafra is the first one that springs to mind, floods in Bangladesh, its nothing new, its just the media never spotlighted it like they do now.

Those places have been having wars and famines since time began and if they all come and live here that would solve their problem I guess.

The other problem is that sometimes if you vote for the party you think may do better for the country you could end up with an idiot as your local MP.

In the past there has twice been a situation where I couldn't bring myself to vote for the representative of the party I would have preferred to get in. One of those times he still got in and caused no end of problems for the constituency.

This time I have emailed some questions to five of the six candidates, all the same questions, to try and get some handle on the way they think. The one I haven't emailed is the Lib Dem because he doesn't have an email address on his info. So I emailed LibDem HO for it and they told me to contact the local office, and gave me their email. They haven't bothered to reply.

Only two have replied so far but I only emailed a few days ago.

I don't want to vote for someone with whom I cannot get in touch.

I think that is interesting, @shiney, should our vote be local, or, national, in outlook?
I have only ever voted one way, wherever I lived, and was actively involved campaigning for a recent MP, who was a disaster, and is now in prison!
