Latest Moan From You and Me 2024

Recent immigration from Hong Kong is completely different, we felt obliged to take them, as we had ruled Hong Kong until the Chinese took over, and these were people who were thought to be unsafe under Chinese rule. So completely different to immigration from other countries.

 

Re migration from Hong Kong: the same applied - or should have applied - to those Afghans who'd supported the British military as translators etc, and needed to get out of Afghanistan fast when the military left.

 

For the first time in years, we have just heard the sound of a little pavement cleaning buggy-thingie, a gutter sweeper-upper and a drain/culvert sookie-oopie jobbie going past our house.

The Afghan issue was utterly cruel and a terrible indictment of this government.

 

I don't have anything to moan about ... it is raining so I am happy.

 

My moan is that I want to be outside, down the garden, but with the wife out for the day, I have to be indoors to wait for a parcel, for her, do shredding, repair the kitchen wall, and so much more - INDOORS!!

 

This isn’t really a moan, but something I find fascinating / disturbing about the workings of the world.
The Taliban are the Wests sworn enemies and we have spent billions trying to eradicate them, but it was not that long ago, when I was a medic in Afghanistan, which was under Russian occupancy, that the Taliban were our friends, and we gave them millions to help their fight.
Can anyone make sense of that?

 

Yep! When there's big money to be made by saying someone is a friend, the US casts them in the role of friends (in the public version of the narrative). When there is big money to be made by saying someone is an enemy, the US casts them in the role of enemy. When the ability to make money out of a situation wans, the US withdraws and leaves a mess.

Same old, same old. It is how the world works because it is how Big Money subverts and manipulates the way the world works, with a complicit media touting the line to the tax-payer, however much that line may shift and sway and defy logic and abuse human rights.

 

A most descriptive description! Not seen one of them in these parts for yonks!

 

To be honest Punkdoc I can't make sense of most things happening
in the World today.

 

Just follow the money. If it makes a profit for the mega-wealthy, it happens.

 

Can't make sense of it as such, as it's politics, but at the time "we" didnt want the Russians having influence in the area and the Taliban were fighting the Russians, so we armed the Taliban, and the Russians threw their hand in, just like we eventually did.
Meddling in other countries governments never really works.
