We have roofs over our heads and hot meals when we want.

 

They were till the council tax bills arrived

 

On the whole people are richer around here, trouble is if people lose their job or are in lower paid work it's more of a struggle than in 'poorer' regions. We have as many food banks here and homeless as other areas.

 

From our vantage point on the North Downs we can look across to London, inbetween is Woking that has been transformed in the last few years. The council have remodelled it into Singapore with awful high rise skyscrapers. At the same time they have bankrupted themselves. Totally unnecessary.

 

There may indeed have been some questionable choices!
Most of the cost overruns were poor implementation of plans and controls and deals made to get big names attached to the project were absurd (the council paying for cutlery for a Hilton hotel for example).
That council has been kicked out and the new council has spent 2 years whining about things and doing nothing.
It's a wonderful town lol
