TBA, I never ranked Murray in the same league as the others, far too patchy, good one minute the next has a mental breakdown and goes off the rails.
Federa, that's the name so cool and no play acting, reminded me of Borg.

 

Murray has achieved a lot. Even Federer does not have a singles Olympic gold, and Murray has two. He was unlucky to need a hip resurfacing just as he reached No.1 in the world in 2016, and he was similarly unlucky not to win the Australian Open a couple of times (being runner-up on about 5 occasions). Had he played in a different era to Djokovic, he might have had a far greater tally of Slam titles.

However, I agree the other 3 are considerable ahead of him. I have never really enjoyed watching him play, whereas Henman achieved far less but was a joy to behold on a grass court.

You'll be mentioning Buster Mottram next. Lets face it, the name let him down.

What is it about British tennis players that they just never quite make the grade, ok I'll accept Murray was good, but do they just not have what it takes.

 

I think it is simply very few, of whatever nationality, "make the grade". In the last 20 yrs, apart from Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, only a handful of others have got a men's singles Slam title - Del Potro, Wawrinka, Murray, Thiem, Hewitt, Ivanisevic! Not sure I can think of any others off the top of my head. When you have almost total dominance by a trio, everyone else automatically fails to make the grade.

I watch as much tennis as possible.

@wiseowl , having lived in Gillingham from being a teenager untill the end of last year, I know about Gillingham FC. But I'm not a fan of football.

 

Lots of names coming back there, Roy Emerson, Fred Stollie, remember him, some good Aussies and of course Jimmy Connors.
