But then I haven't dreamt, a dream being a memory. It's like what is the "sound of one hand clapping".

Just because you don't remember doesn't mean dreaming did not happen. :) Dreams are the result of brain activity. Some are remembered, some not, but the brain activity happened either way.

As I understand it, some floaters that were already there become visible after surgery and some of the floating wisps are because the jelly at the back of the eye has become disturbed and fallen away. It should sink to the bottom of the eye and be invisible, but sometimes it is not liquid enough to do that so it floats around like ghostly weeds in an aquarium!

Typically dreams are supposed to happen during REM sleep. The remebrance is proof that you have dreamt. I do not remember therefore I have not dreamt, neither is there evidence that I actually experienced REM sleep.

I always find you dont remember dreams unless you wake up halfway through them.
You often only remember them for a short time after you wake up and unless its something like a nightmare its gone quickly.

Even without proof (ie remembering) you may have been dreaming, @NigelJ. Not recalling you did is not proof that you didn't. :) As @pete says, lots of dreams go unrecalled.

It is also not proof that I did dream.
We better leave it here, as we are not going to agree; short of wiring me up to an EEG for multiple nights; or you finding someone who has observed me for multiple nights. The first is unlikely and good luck with the second.

@NigelJ the obvious solution to your problem is to go to a manned cashdesk and not selfcheck. I like to see people being employed rather than me doing the SM's work. They make enough profits and I like to exchange greetings and a smile. Can't do that with an automated checkout.

No black spots here so far but I've had a laser treatment to reduce pressure in the eyball and reduce the likelihood of glaucoma later. So far so good. Next checkup on 8/8. I have friends here who've had catarct treatments but no reports of black floaters. Odd. The main complaint is the period of waiting before getting new specs for reading and sewing as they no longer need the long vision part of their glasses.

I've had floaters and stringy bits for about 40 years. It's a right soup in there.

In the last 10 years the jelly in both eyes has shrunk and pulled away. I noticed a bright gold C shape when I moved my eyes about and there were some fixed black specs in my vision.

The first time I went to the eye hosptal and had it checked out, but it's just old age. The disturbance lasted about 4 days. When I go to Specsavers I have the hospital grade photo taken and I can see the gap left by the jelly shrinking and pulling away.

But the floaters are there forever.

Where I go they only have a few checkouts open and the queues are very long, could take 20 minutes easily to get your chat with the person

When asked they say they can't get the staff, I don't disbelieve them.

I sympathise, @cactus_girl. I can't move around in dim light without setting off flashing lights. It's a PITA.

I should add, so as not to worry anyone, for most people cataract surgery is a simple procedure which produces fantastic outcomes and no ongoing problems. :)
