Lots of different names for it and the different effects it has. I've had floaters for as long as I can remember plus getting ocular migraines (no pain, just vision effects). Mine last almost exactly 20 minutes.

My migraines are usually only 10 mins of visual disturbance. I know it is coming cos suddenly there are holes in anything I am reading. Then I get arcs like in your middle bottom picture, but only white lights, not colours.

The flashing I get when moving around in dim light is different and stops the moment I stop moving or reach a brighter area. It's apparently to do with a pull on the retina when the eye isn't receiving enough light to see by.

I've had those flashing coloured lights on a few occasions, I was pretty worried first time it happened.
With me it seems to come on for no real reason but I do remember it coming on on very sunny day when I was taking photos, looking through the viewfinder.

It's really odd because it's only at one side, but it's exactly the same in both eyes.

Down here in mid Cornwall I have had outages quite regularly. I usually only find out when the electric clock shows the wrong time. A couple of weeks ago the National Grid turned our power off from 8.00am until 6.00pm two days running while they replaced poles and cables etc. It will be interesting to see if my supply improves. There have been loads of road works for Broadband locally, they like to wait until the main visitors season to start road works.

That's the normal pattern for Ocular Migraine. The most common version is with it appearing as a bright light in the middle of both eyes and gradually expanding in a slightly jagged circle whilst then leaving the middle clear - similar to the top right picture above.

Most people that have it can find no particular reason for it appearing but bright lights can bring it on (especially looking into the sun - or straight at a naked light bulb).

Closing your eyes doesn't make it go away and you just have to wait for it to disappear out of the outside of your eyes.

Hopefully it will. We had ben getting 20 - 40 outages a year for at least 50 years. They have always come up with different reasons (overhead cable problems from trees, sub-station problems etc.) but towards the end of last year they also turned all our power off for 10 hours a day for two days and we have had a lot fewer outages since. :blue thumb:

@pete my favourite SM has 2 checkouts with priority for pregnant women and the handicapped so they can get thru quickly. There are also 2 checkouts marked to say here we have time to chat if you like - great for lonely people. There are another 2 to 4 checkouts for people who self scan as they fill their trolley and 4 machines for people with just a basketful who want to checkout themselves. Queues never get more than 5 deep before another checkout opens.

They have quiet periods twice a week when the lighting is dimmed and there's no music or announcements - helpful for people with conditions such as autism or who just like some peace. They also have free STs for their female staff and give all staff an extra day off on the 2nd of Jan as a reward for getting thru the Xmas and NY festivities.

The only downside is that, since Brexit, they no longer stock golden syrup, Heinz baked beans or HP sauce in their "foreign" section.

Usually about 4 checkouts where I go and people with trollies piled high.

There are sections for self checkout for trollies and another for self checkout baskets.

I prefer the self checkouts now I have got used to them, far more convenient, and not so much waiting around, if any.

@Obelix-Vendée in the UK more and more places are replacing people with self-scan, which I refuse to use if I have more than a couple of items. One clothes shop my wife goes to, even has self-scan when items have security tags. When my wife said she had no idea how to remove the tag, the woman just tutted and said it's easy. That just about sums up the general attitude to customer service these days.
Self-checkout is OK if you have just a few items, but it takes much longer if you have a full trolley. With a staffed checkout, I can sort items into the order I want to bag them and clear the conveyor as the final item is scanned.

It's a bit different here. I used to prefer to go to a staffed checkout but always got annoyed that they didn't scan them in the order that I had placed them on the conveyor. I had already placed them in the order that I wanted to pack them.

Then they brought out the self checkouts and, after I got used to them, found it much better.

Then they brought out the scan as you shop system and I find that even better. I write my shopping list in the order the items are in the aisles, Have all my bags open and ready in the trolley and fill them as I prefer on the way round the store.

As my store opens at 6 a.m. I almost always go at that time - to avoid struggling with rush hour traffic on the way into and out of town. The advantage of that, apart from lack of people and traffic, is that the shelves have been stocked with fresh items overnight. As most of my shopping is fresh food it makes a big difference to value for money. As an example:- caulis are all the same price but if the shelves have just been stocked I can pick caulis that are twice the size of others on the shelf.

Also, at 6 a.m. in the morning there are no staffed checkouts.

Who's an unsociable old grumpy? :old: :heehee:

They used to do that in Morrisons on Saturday mornings, suddenly have the lights go out and the music stops.
I stopped going then as I was using too many torch batteries:biggrin:
                        I don't go Saturdays anymore.

If you can find one with out a large queue. They are also introducing larger self service tills to replace these.
