We are dependent on technology that we don't understand. Most of us are unable to fix it if it malfunctions or adapt it to our personal needs.
Do you remember when your dad could fix your car with a spanner and a screwdriver? Try doing that now.

 

I just think far too many things are now called smart and connect to the internet for no real reason, they still should work without it.

What has happened today isn't exactly smart, imo.
