There is apparently an Ofcom rule that they have to give compensation and that is at a fixed rate of £9.36 per day after two full days - that would be 15 days by Thursday (17 days total), which equates to a few months free I suppose; the fact remains that it has soured things significantly for me, not least as they've blatantly lied on more than one occasion. As contract renewal is up in October, we shall commence discussions with them in August to see what they are offering for the next contract period and go from there. Suffice to say, they are going to have to jump through some hoops to be within any chance of persuading me to stay.

The call centre staff better beware!

Apparently the Republicans are putting up a legal challenge to prevent Biden's removal from the ballot. Sheesh, the American people deserve better than this.

It's started already. A Republican has gone on TV to say Harris is only on the ballot because she has a vagina and the "right" skin colour to tick the diversity box.

This is going to get very unpleasant. Getting a woman in the top job was always going to be a struggle. Men tend to vote for men ... and women do too.

Worrying, if true. A long article on what a Trump presidency might reap for Americans - changes similar to those being made by Orban in Turkey, and rowing back from such upheaval would be nigh on impossible. Loss of free media, power grabs by billionaires, the rise of the grip fundamentalist christains hold - it's not looking good.

Merkans might vote for another black president. They might vote for a female president . But would they vote for a black female president?

1 week with out phone & broadband all because BT changed a tele pole down the road and they didn't connect us back up, they even had a note that our house hasn't been connected, WHY
People don't care any more and they don't check things after using spanners

Just pick up e-mails, lots from BT about how to check and get back on line, why send e-mails when they know we don't have broadband & phone, they did send a wifi mini hub but we could use it as our computer (decktop) hasn't got wifi  so that's got to go back :rolleyespink:

@Jiffy A few summers ago an engineer came to fix a problem with next door's internet. I saw chappy up the pole twiddling at the moment our 'net died. By the time I got my shoes on and ran outside he'd gone. Would Orange believe me? Course not.

They did remote and in person checks on the line into the house and our modem, ugraded the modem and declared both healthy. No joy, but they did attach many megabytes of free data to OH's mobile so we could tether. Took them weeks to cave in and send a man up that pole to push a wire back in.

Two summers ago they were busy installing fibre optics and the first thing they did was disconnect the ADSL junction box up the road. That took them 2 months to fix, again with free megabytes for both of us for tethering and no believable apologies.

Nope, definitely not, and it isn't anywhere either.

But you would think Americans would be embarassed to have someone like Trump representing them. Any super wealthy foreign businessman can flash their cash at Trump and he will do anything they want. He can so obviously be bought.

Its good Biden's going, he wasn't fit for office, but if Trump gets in again things could get very dangerous for any Americans who oppose him, or who he ever considers to have "wronged" him. There are too many parallels with history. Its not a joke, the dems better up their game.

Surely getting rid of Biden is a start at keeping Trump out, Biden has been playing into Trumps hands for too long and should have stepped down months ago.

Trumps popularity is basically down to a large part of the population feeling they have been ignored for years, Trump just plays on that and it gets him votes.

Politicians of all kinds need to realise you need to include everyone as best you can, ignore a large sector, the silent majority, and it's at your peril.

And we are heading in that direction here, unless Starmer can start looking after the ordinary people rather than pandering to the minorities all the time.

I think the difficulty in politics these days is voters are less inclined to back what needs doing if there is no benefit for them. The sense of community is gone and politicians who have spouted "We're all in this together" whilst making sure favoured backers and cronies clearly are not, have hastened the collapse. And the media vilifying groups (those on benefits, migrants, etc) creates cracks in society that can never be mended, making people feel others are somehow "cheating" the system.

What the answer is, I don't know. But Trump is definitely not part of it.

Trump is the product of it, he's filling the void that all those people disillusioned with politics, that has never done them personally any good, want filling.

The old days where you voted for a certain party because your dad did are gone.

Most ordinary people feel cheated by the system that has gone on for years and not getting anywhere, especially in these days where living standards are falling, at least in the 50s and 60s people had hope, I'll even stretch that as far as the 90s.

All we get fed now is complete doom and gloom and higher taxes for less.

Appreciate the attempt at humour there :blue thumb:, but the forum has historically tried to steer around political discussion as it tends to wind people up
