Yes @noisette47, but as long as ordinary people are willing to pay silly money to support top football teams or go to concerts where they can hardly see the "artiste" and want to wear the same clothes or the club shirt etc these people will always attract sponsorship and advertising.

There needs to be a change in focus and values throughout the spectrum.

 

There is a match shirt, similar to the ones that the players wear @ £125 with the stadium shirt, not really much difference @ £85.

The England shirts for Qatar were made in Thailand with factory workers being paid £1 an hour for a match shirt which retailed for £115.

A lot of the problem is with the retailers who pay for sole rights, JD sports has exclusive rights to sell the Newcastle Utd match shirts which Sports direct have been contesting it in court, they will not win as Sports direct did exactly the same when Mike Ashley was the owner of Newcastle football club.

 

This is the problem. If people want to pay that for a shirt, fine, but if retailers want to sell a shirt for that there should be a minimum percentage of the price that goes to workers. Anything else is just exploitation.

Meanwhile, apparently the sharks swimming off the coast of Brazil are high on crack, due to the amount of cocaine in the water. Scary!

 

I agree. On a typical £80 football shirt, the total cost of production including labour, materials and transportation from Asia is £8. The club pockets about £26, the manufacturing brand about £24, HMRC will pocket £13.33, there is a license fee per shirt, about £5 with the rest going on marketing purposes.

I see a lot of sport clothing in Thailand, all copies though. Normally a football shirt will be somewhere in the region of £5-£10 depending on your size. Over there, you will pay more for clothes if your an xxxl compared to someone who is a medium, that's on all clothing, including shoes.

 

There will be a few, Snortfin Mako sharks about then.

 

That was my first thought, @Loofah, as apparently the sharks tested had a lot in their systems.

 

A small moan for me yesterday. I needed a new tyre for the car as I had a slow puncture. The website was hideous when I tried to book last Wed, and it was well before the meltdown, so instead of getting it booked for Monday [which is what I was trying to do] when I eventually got into the site [needed a password reminder which didn't work until the following day] there were no slots left so I had to book it for yesterday. I even tried to change it, when the weather was showing Tuesday as by far the best day for a hillwalk. Could I change it? No - site wasn't working again.
What was even more annoying was the fact that I wandered around for well over an hour, including traipsing around the boiling hot G. Centre, so I went back. Hadn't even started on my car. 2 hours in total [not including the travelling there ] down the pan. I don't know what the point is of having a booking time [and they want you to bring it at least 10 mins before that time] if they aren't going to use it. They only took the car to get started because I turned up - that was 11.20.
How long it would have been if I hadn't gone back then is anyone's guess. Not amused, and won't be going back there.

 

I don't bother with websites for such things, either a phone call or just turn up.

I have used the mobile tyre fitters and they are very convenient and I don't think much more expensive but often they want to do 2 tyres.

I would normally use the local outlet, which was always brilliant, and you never had to wait long, but it's been taken over. I had to take daughter's car last summer [long story] and despite me making it clear to the new owner that it wasn't my car, and I only wanted that one tyre replaced, he kept pushing for another one to be done.
I don't like that attitude, so I decided to try this place again. I'd had the other front tyre done later last year, and it was very slow then, but I assumed it was just a busy time or something.
I should have known...

 

Yes they are pushy in most places, they tell you all sorts of horror stories to get you to have work done that doesn't really need doing.
Often you get the old survey afterwards and if there is a box to add comments at the end I usually lay into them with a lot of comments.
Never really happy when they want you to give them 5 stars just for doing what they are paid to do.

 

We use a local independent. They're really trustworthy and will even tell you if your tyre doesn't need replacing! I hope they're still there next time we want to use them.

What good will that money be on an uninhabitable planet, eh? The trouble is we have to get to that devastated state before those will dollar signs impeding their vision will see their piles of wonga are useless.

They are already cutting down on oil seed rape as that is becoming impossible to grow as insecticides are banned, so I hear.

Maybe we should just cover all the farm land with solar panels and import all our food from countries where they can still use insecticides.

More people to feed on an ever decreasing amount of land is not helping wildlife either, we cant live without doing some damage to the planet, there are too many of us and our numbers are out of step with nature, full stop.
