The amount of half drunk plastic bottles of coke I find either thrown over my fence or dumped in the road suggests kids have too much money these days.

As a kid I would never have just dumped a half drank bottle.

The last time I bought a bottle of coca cola it was to remove rust from a set of wheels on a énd hand piece of furniture.

It is well understood that when we were hunter gaherers we gorged on high density foods when we found them so that we had fat reserves to see us thru lean times. The big food manufacturers spend a fortune on scientists and research to formulat cheap foods that will satisfy that urge, hook us in and make vast profits for them.

Knowing that is half the battle to training your brain to reject a quick MacD/pizza/Kentucky FC and sweet confectionery in favour of something that will fill us up for longer, feed our bodies and brains and not poison us. It is long past time to make basic cookery and nutrition a compulsory subject in schools, taught ina fun way and at an age when children are receptive so primary schools.

I’ve never tasted Coca Cola or Pepsi Cola or any other cola, but looking at that photo of a tin of Coke I see phosphoric acid is an ingredient.

The same phosphoric acid as this one, mentioned in an American government document about hazardous chemicals…

“Phosphoric Acid is a colorless, odorless solid or a thick, clear liquid. It is used in rustproofing metals, fertilizers, detergents, foods, beverages, and water treatment.”

That's because you're ignore the import of what I was saying. The size of the can has nothing to do with the responsibility of the adult. The parent should be teaching the child not to want any size of can.

"Plums contain three main sugars — glucose, sucrose and fructose, with the concentrations depending on the cultivar or variety. Total sugar content of plums changes during the ripening process and even changes between cultivars."

        Quoted from Chromatography Today.

I think you mistook the humour of what I was saying.

But that isn't working. Childhood obesity is at an all time high. If a few easily implemented marketing rules helped parents help their children, then why not?

But virtually none (some have) of the marketing rules have worked in the past. Education by parents and teachers in the past worked well. nowadays most parents couldn't care less - and they should.

The situation we have now is not the same as in the past. Food with low nutritional value swamps the marketplace because it is so profitable.

You are on a BT line for your internet though, so they are your ISP. I wonder if it is a DNS issue...

Even drinking too much water is dangerous. I rarely butt anything that has more than four or five ingredients on the label.
What peeves me is when you buy meat, they'll often tell you the percentage of fat, but not how much water has been added for 'succulence ' ( I hate that word!) - actually weight. By the time the water and fat have seeped out, there's bxxxxr all meat left.
Then there's crisps. They've managed to get us to pay for a bag of air.

Because food companies have learned from the mistakes of Big Tobacco and spend millions on lobbying politicians to avoid regulating them.

I think ADHD diagnoses are partly linked to the rise in smartphones. Pathological levels of distraction are harder to get out of, since most of us have highly addictive devices in our pockets designed to give us dopamine hits at regular intervals so we lose some of our ability to focus (you can not use them, but its difficult as so many places require online tickets, QR codes and so on).
