Well I think we were better under the Tories if you want a comparison.
Labour have only been in a few weeks and all they have done is given doctors a 22% rise and stripped pensioners of all the tiny perks they get.
We had a fairly high percentage rise this year, but its a percentage of not much to start with.

God knows what else they have planned, I hate to think.
Probably scrap tax relief on ISAs next.

They have some really (really) stupid rules in place. I am on a long term prescription for various things, but one of the drugs is a controlled drug; that controlled drug cannot be put onto the repeat prescription request list, so the only way I can order it (every three weeks) is to order one of the others that I am on. Net result is I end up, eventually, with an excess of something or other which has to be disposed of.

They're not necessarily bothered about the pensioners but they will be bothered about them filling up the hospital beds when they can't afford to pay for their prescriptions.

Nah, that will be no problem now the junior doctors have had such a good payrise...

Being more than a bit deaf, I don't hear the night time thunderstorms, however spectacular. It's a genuine pleasure for me to hear the current ( is that a pun?) thunderstorm as I've put my hearing aids in. I can hear the rain and smell the petrichor. Sorry for anyone who disagrees (sort of) but it's good to hear things that I usually miss.

I really don't understand the attitude of some members. The Tories had 14 years to get it right or to be even heading that way. Instead, they indulged in internecine quarrels while ignoring the fate of the country. Maybe if they had, instead, put their mind to running the country fairly and efficiently I would have considered giving them my vote - but they didn't.
Now I'm prepared to give the Labour party a chance to behave more responsibly. Maybe they will and maybe they won't but sniping a few weeks after the election does nobody any good.

In fairness, they are not exactly off to a good start of "putting government back in the service of the public" are they?

Removing the cap on social care costs and removing the winter fuel allowance has directly targeted society's most vulnerable... meanwhile, they are lobbing almost £12bn toward Africa for 'climate assistance'

You seem to be missing the fact that they have started their money grabbing raid on one of the poorer sections of the community, that tends to speak volumes on how they intend to run things.
The intention seems to be to put all pensioners into poverty, first, something they seem to have set about very quickly, but not moving so quickly in other areas or sections of the community.
So it appears to be usual Labour, if you have saved all your life or tried to create a half decent retirement more fool you, they will bring you down until you are totally reliant on them for hand outs.

It occurred to me to wonder how many riots start when it's bxxxxy cold or pixxing down with rain.
Am I am old cynic? If you live in a tower block with no one for company but your killer dog, who isn't much company as he lives on the balcony, on a hot summer's evening, it's good to get out and interact like-minded people.

I think it should be means tested, along with the changes to winter fuel allowance. The free TV licence for all over 75s should be means tested too.

I don't think the TV license is free for over 75s any more unless they get pension credit, or are registered blind (irrespective of age).

I'd much rather that the TV licence and BBC services were optional.

The problem with "ah let's give them a chance", BB3, is that once they stop services, the chance that those services will be reintroduced is almost zero.
Of course they can stop the free prescription over 60's, shiney. Everybody buys a PPC, and the same with a bus pass. Saves Billions.
As I said, the people in Germany are so fed up because the government first stripped them off their money and now they want to make them homeless.
German property tax went up: old: 179 EUR a year, new 2000 EUR (example).
Forcing people to make their home eco friendly: 120k in average,
Forcing people to change to heat pumps with costs of 15k.

What I read what Labour said in advance, it was clear that they go the same line.
They have the "Working people" in mind, and these are for Labour those who work and need benefits.

                              What that means for us?
                              - Water companies charge a service tax of £100 a month on top of the water price.
                              - property tax and vehicle tax go up
                              - income tax on everything goes up
                              - Council tax could be doubled
                              - VAT to 22%
                              - If a road is redone, property owner on that road have to share the cost (in Germany common law, can cost up to 20k out of the blue)

                              Just speculating.
