Punkdoc, I wanted to do the same and couldn't face battling through the phone hurdles to speak to someone so I literally just sent in a cheque with a covering letter saying - here is a cheque for X, these are the yrs I am buying, this is my NI number. I didn't have the 15 digit code or whatever it is they say you need. Anyway, they did not acknowledge receipt but 3 weeks later they cashed the cheque and about 12 weeks after that they updated my record to show the extra yrs were credited. This was late last yr.

Go for it, I'd say. :dbgrtmb:

I've just been on "go compare" trying to sort out my car insurance.
The moan is, why after asking loads of questions and nailing down what cover you want does it come up with all this stuff that is different to what you wanted.

Loads of cheaper prices than my renewal, but when you delve into them there is always something missing that you have stated you wanted.

By the time you then add on all the stuff that is in your original policy most of them are coming out more expensive.:wallbanging:

@pete, something I noticed last yr was the comparison site I use downgrades your expected mileage in line with your actual mileage the previous yr (presumably gleaned from electronic MOT certificates). So, if you drive less for some reason (lockdowns, say), all your new quotes are based round that lower mileage. I only found out by accident.

I didn't realise that, there are just so many things where they try to catch you out, you have to check every detail almost.
I think comparison sites were good when they first came out, but I think like everything these days, they try to make the prices they come up with look really competitive, so you buy through them.
But if they are quoting for something less than you asked for there doesn't seem to be much point.

I've been using Confused.com and their quotes have been very reasonable. This is the third year we have used them for both our cars. Also, if you do book with them they offer you some small incentives. We just pick the free monthly car wash (can only be used at IMO) worth £8.50 a month. My car has never been so clean as I used to only wash it once or twice a year :heehee:

You really need to write out a list of the main things that you want covered and you can then get a good comparison. Mrs Shiney's car is a Ford Focus Titanium X (haven't the faintest what all that stands for), fully comp, courtesy car etc. very low mileage and cost £284 :blue thumb:

I paid up some missing years to get the full OAP last year. It took an incredible amount of time, maybe 6 months for my pension to be increased. I got to the stage where I wondered if I would kick the bucket before I got the full pension!

But my moan is that you put into the site what you want and you then get loads of quotes with half of the cover missing, yes they are cheaper but because half the cover that you told them you want is missing.
After you look at the insurers site and add on the bits they have left off it's more expensive than the renewal.

Car wash? what's one of those, I just want insurance.;)

@hailbopp, it is a bit nerve-wracking while you wait for them to amend your entitlement record. Even if you only add a couple of yrs, it's a fair amount of money to be "loose" in their system.

                That's an option @JennyJB .
I bought a 2l bottle of diet coke. Straight sides and seems wide enough. We'll see. Took the opportunity to give the feeder a good clean.
M&S water bottle fitted perfectly but it's a few years old. I bet they've changed the design to something more 'appealing' and not designed as a squirrel slide.

I did find aa site many moons ago when I paid arrears that told you where/how the 15 digit reference is derived I'll look to find it.
This is very, very important to some as they can make £1000s. Of course to us rich b@st@rds (I wish) 1000s may not matter....

MoneySavingExpert here was the link for the information and lots more - good luck folks

Worth checking with LV, I believe they're not on comparison sites. They've been the cheapest we could find for the past few years, they do discounts if you insure other things with them like, housing insurance. Maybe worth 5 mins of your time.

My insurance is with Flow who gave me a good quote last year but they've just been taken over by Allianz. I won't be able to make a comparison this year as I'll be changing my car in a couple of weeks.

Can anybody advise how to stop the waistband of my trousers shrinking whenever I put them in a drawer for a while?
