That's a ludicrous situation @shiney. Maybe you should tell them 'wot's in charge' you're not paying any of your water bill when they're so keen to keep wasting it?

It's just part of the joys of living where we do. :heehee: We love it here and if anything directly impacts upon us I then do something about it.

I don't mind the road being closed as it keeps the traffic away - although we don't get much traffic normally except during commuters rushing to the station two miles away. There are no side roads except at either end of the road with just a few houses and the rest is fields.

I can guess how mine voted.

There seems to be a pattern developing, I get the impression that the government feel that if they can keep weeing us off and then just blaming the tories at some point the mud won't stick, but I think this will always be remembered as their first action.
What about the publicity stunt yesterday of releasing all those prisoners at the same time on the same day.
If that wasn't just looking for headlines then I don't know what is.

Be interesting to see what other stunts they have planned.

A good many chose not to vote at all - either abstained or were just "too busy" to vote. Time for them to stop banging on about "hard decisions" - most of us are already aware of the problems as they continue to affect us on a daily basis. It begins to sound as if they were not remotely aware of what being in govt. would actually mean.
I wonder when they will do what many churches/libraries etc are already doing and open up the Houses of Parliament for those in need of warmth and discounted food Perhaps even let some of the released prisoners with no place to sleep take advantage of the comfortable benches as it's obviously a good place for a nap  They might just begin to get an idea of what real life is about ??

I think voting should be compulsory. They are paid to do this, after all, and it can be done remotely if necessary. But all votes should be free ones with no coercion.

Its party first with all of them, regardless of colour.

Representing their constituents is not their ambition in the main.

This is the Hose of Commons we are talking about; voting cannot be done remotely an MP has to physically pass through the Aye or Noe lobby and be counted off to actually vote. It is possible to be "paired" with an opposition MP where neither of you turn up to vote and so in effect cancel each other out.
In previous parliaments MP's have been taken to the House in an ambulance, passed through the lobby in a wheelchair, before being returned to their sickbeds.
Now electronic/remote voting would make a lot of sense, but we are talking MPs here so don't hold your breath.

That's how they do it now. But they could do it differently. In our digital age, it is hardly rocket science. ;)

I see a MP who is a docter voted NO, so will he start to see OAP's coming into his other place of work because they are cold because they can pay for heating
Also it looks like he may have had a Donaton already for £10,000 a few months in the job as well, how do you apply to be an MP

Yes they could and they could also move to a nice modern building where they could have office space, comfortable seats, electronic voting, computer access in the chamber etc, but they won't even agree to move out of the Palace of Westminster while essential repairs costing billions and lasting many years are carried out, they prefer to stay in a building site increasing cost and time significantly.
Dinosaurs have nothing on British Institutions; with any luck the next asteroid will take out Central London.
