What happens if you are old and decrepit, don't own a mobile phone but just rely on a landline phone and find it difficult to keep up with all the new technology ( or even the old technology ) ?
Not everyone has a family who can assist them or live within a small caring community - the so called Social Care is on the wane so I don't see much hope for these people. Or maybe that is the latest "Cunning Plan "- forget these people and fingers crossed they die off before too long

As mentioned earlier, BT have developed a cordless phone for those people. :blue thumb:

There is a charity called AbilityNet that should also be able to help and they provide free help. 0800 048 7642 or [email protected]
There are also some factsheets at Senior skills - Inclusive - Responsible business | BT Plc

£8 a month! :yikes: I haven't got money to throw away on fripperies. Actually, my monthly total is usually £0. Very occasionally it is a couple of quid, but I've never reached the package cost in any one month. I get free calls to other Plusnet numbers and rack up about an hr a week that way ... just to get my money's worth out of my £0.

I have dutifully hand delivered my flu vaccine refusal slip. :pathd: Waited while the receptionist was on the phone to someone booking an appt to see a named doctor. Earliest available - 18th November! :ouch1:

I can't make more than £65 of calls per month. If I reach that, I think they contact me. It's to stop people running up bills they can't afford, I assume, or being scammed by fake calls connecting you overseas. Of course, hanging in a queue for hrs would soon add up, so unless it is a free number, I don't.

65 quid is a lot of calls.
I pay 8 a month with unlimited calls on a mobile.
That gives me internet access as well.

But it would only be about 200 mins in a queue, so ringing HMRC would be a no-go for a start.

Anyway, my point was these GP phone queues are all well and good, but they can get expensive if you don't have a package with free minutes. I'm perfectly content with my arrangements ... and if I wasn't, I would change them. I'm thinking it might be time to move to a smart phone at the end of my current contract with Plusnet. Then I would use a GiffGaff sim and could have data and calls and stuff at a monthly charge much lower than my current BB and landline package.

It's all over the newspapers this morning, Starmer now admits he took £32k for clothing.
First £4, then £16, now 32. What comes next, £64k?
Who ever is behind it and is leaking every day a piece of the story, there seems to be more going on then just "I like designer stuff".
One wonders how long this government will last...

Was it always part of the master plan to let Starmer win the election ... and then dispose of him sharpish?

I think he's been foolish to accept any freebies at all, especially so early on. He could have drawn a line in the sand and really shown he was different to the Tories. He seems a bit of a lame duck PM already. From now on, he will be hobbling rather than striding forwards.

The issue is who might replace him. The hard left would want Raynor. Reeves would want Reeves. The country would want neither ... but then we won't have a say anyway.

Seem's to be the way things are now

I've thought all along Starmer wouldn't go the distance, I know he still could but someone has it in for him.
But if he should have to go because of accepting gifts then the other two will have to go as well imo.
Who knows what double dealing is going on behind the scenes it would never surprise me to find he has been set up by the actual donor, can't remember his name.

@pete Being smart should be the top skill someone has if he/she wants to lead the country.
There must be a mole inside Labour if you count 2 and 2 together. It started already in June with providing information about the household plan.

Accepting gifts is nothing new for MPs or anyone in the public eye so I really don't care. What I do care about is having a workable plan and delivering it, and I'm not seeing anything like it yet.
I did like Starmer sounding off at the UN and having the war mongers present though. I doubt it achieved anything but it needed saying

The fact that accepting gifts is nothing new even more suggests that someone has it in for him.
Maybe they need a new announcement about a "difficult decision " or two to take the heat off the gifts problem.
