Latest Moan From You and Me 2024

Over the years I've had people walking into my garden looking for SWW coast path which is downhill and about 1 km due east of me on the sea front, others have been trying to reach Paignton Zoo, with whom I share boundary; the problem being the scrub conceals old quarry workings. One neighbour's mother was visiting them and said she liked walking in the park nextdoor to them and lucky they were. Another time about nine o clock one dark evening I saw lights and discovered three people with torches looking for their Highland Terrier which had legged it through my garden, probably in pursuit of a badger, I understand it returned home some time later some what muddy and bedraggled.

 

There is a guy who has been in town playing the Accordion for a few months,
the music is really nice & people have a smile on their faces.
Today there were 2 policemen taking his details, I went over to have a word
and the Police just waved me away.
So it's ok for the druggies & shoplifters to wander around but not for
someone bringing a little cheer to the town.

 

Why wouldn't they wave you away? You are interfering with them doing their job, and what they are doing is none of your business.

 

The problem is, that it is still considered begging, albeit with a tune. Maybe a local shopkeeper took offence.
Maybe the musician had had money stolen.

 

Unless the accordianist was actually asking for payment ( as opposed to simply accepting money from passersby who felt his music was worth it ) , it's no more "begging" than the endless adverts shown on TV asking for viewers to donate to all sorts of charities.
Difficult to know from the brief description given by @john558 why the police were taking the chap's details but presumably if a crime had been committed either by him or against him, the police would be looking for witnesses in the area at the time?

 

The guy moved from the area after the police left.
Such a shame, giving shoppers joy, still he was an easy target.

 

The chuggers outside supermarkets get my goat, never make eye contact its like giving in before you have even started.
Most of the time now they don't want your cash, they want a direct debit.

 

Not so different from the RNLI then - "collecting" outside the SM some time ago so I offered a couple of £1 coins as I have always felt it was a worthwhile cause to support...........not interested..........you had to sign up for a lottery thing. When I said "sorry, don't do lotteries" I received a long and patronising lecture about the problems associated with cash. Put me off them completely

 

So ... if an email says a delivery is arriving between 10.30 and 12.30, why does it actually arrive at 5.09 pm ... when I have given up and gone out ... and it has started to rain after being dry all day? Humpf!

 

Our internet connection speed via copper wire is down to 1bps! So I have logged on via mobile with 4g 1 bar, which only works upstairs for some of the time. I'm thinking the rain has finally corroded the copper (it may actually be aluminium). The ground here is waterlogged after raining non-stop for 2 days. So I will log out as I'm going downstairs and there's no mobile reception. Hope the TV works (good old fashioned aerial there).

 

Have to report back that all seems OK now - well wifi on mobile works so desktops must too. And it has stopped raining.

 

Not a moan as such. More of a feeling of utter fury at these morons. I'd be banned if I say here what I really want to say
Glen Coe's Lost Valley spoilt by litter and rock art, says NTS

 

It's the utter selfishness @JWK, and the total disregard for their surroundings that infuriates me, in all sorts of situations, including the ones you mention re parking etc.
The walk back down the Lost Valley is a very moving experience after doing the surrounding hills - Bidean nam Bian is certainly one of the most memorable hillwalks I've done, and is the main hill there, normally done with it's neighbour [S. coire Sgreamhach] as a circular route, but many of the usual tourists simply go along the glen. Nothing wrong with that of course, as long as they remember the quote - leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but photos. This is a totally different level of disgusting though.
This is a whole new level of vile, moronic behaviour that we've been seeing since the Covid lockdowns etc, although Glen Etive has been a target for years for this because of filming a stupid James Bond film there in the past. I was talking to a nice chap when out on a hill recently, and he agreed that this behaviour has been more prevalent since the lockdowns.
