Wife's car was written off recently so we're car shopping as we speak... Not splashing out on this assisted motoring stuff though

You don't necessarily get a choice - and soon, you definitely won't if you are buying new as it has been mandated by the EU

I love both of those - back when Peugeot were really at the top of their game. I sincerely hope you do get them back on the road!

I seem to remember Volvos when ADAS was first fitted used to brake on motorways going under bridges. Mine hasn't got it fitted, I like tech things that help but that could be downright dangerous.

Just tried LV for insurance and they came out at well over £100 more than my renewal from Hastings direct, fed up looking now so might as well pay up.

If ever you are at the point of selling, I would appreciate first refusal (on either/both) on the understanding that if I couldn't raise the money, I would go on and speak to some of my contacts to help you get a sale without hassle etc.

I got my daughter to disable all the bells and whistles on my current car. The one that flashed to 'let me know someone was overtaking' was the real bugbear. Right in your eyeline, just where the mirrors are anyway. What's that about?
I remember saying that to the bloke when he told me about it - all excited because it was clearly a great idea...or so he thought. He cooled down when I said 'isn't that what my mirrors are for?'
The stupid thing kept malfunctioning too- going onwhen I went round corners or on narrow glen roads - with no other traffic anywhere near me.

The reversing noises etc do my head in as well, so they're gone. I'd managed to disable that one myself, but I never spent enough time when I was in the car, footering with all the stupid additions, so daughter was very useful.
Car would have been about 5 or 6 grand cheaper if they'd just left all the cr*p off it. :loll:

See, this is where the likes of the Dacia Jogger is currently winning - it has got just enough tech without it going overboard and they are reasonably priced, without feeling like a poverty choice. I know quite a few folks who have driven them now and love them.

I had thought of one of those at the time I bought this @Fat Controller .
The problem was - it didn't have a CD player. That was about the only thing I really wanted!

The heated seats are handy though...;)

I love my heated seats - in fact the Volvo is about the best ones I think I have ever had. The only thing I don't have that I miss from the Jag is a heated windscreen (my fault, I thought this car had it, when it didn't); I wouldn't mind a heated steering wheel too, but have managed all these decades without.

When I think of my first car (one of these, brush painted in red):

Indeed. My first car was an Avenger. I got it from someone I worked with - it was his mother's and hadn't been used much, but it was really old. It didn't last long though, and I had to buy a new car. I had several Fiats, and they were brillliant wee cars.
My current car has a heated windscreen and that's certainly very useful. Saves the whole - 'putting a cover on every night' malarkey through winter.

I think Volvos had heated seat long before other cars, i might be wrong, just remember my BiL having them in the 80s on his Volvo.
My old Mondeo had heated and cooled seats, although I could never see the point in the UK.

I was under the impression that the heated windscreen was a ford thing and had a patent on it but Jaguar was able to use it because they had a connection with Ford at some point.

Dunno about heated seats. Got a lift from one of our sons the other day and suddenly a strange warm feeling began to spread beneath me on the seat. I might be old but…:yikes:
