@Loofah Sad but I fear there is nowhere these days which will offer much improvement overall on this country however much we get annoyed, frustrated, fed up. I've tried it over the last 40 years but it isn't quite that simple. Not even the Polar regions are a safe bet - too many countries arguing over territory.
Best of luck finding a safe and pleasant place.:)

@Loofah Elon Musk will be looking for volunteers to settle Mars soon.
As for an independent county I'd suggest Cornwall and Devon; mild, plenty of water, plenty of beautiful gardens for inspiration.

          Isle of Wight? :heehee:
I've thought about Australia before and actually had job lined up for me and Mrs L but she decided against it. It's a bit more persuasive now as successive governments have been atrocious

I know how you feel. I hope to move to either Thailand or Vietnam, Hua Hin in Thailand is popular for foreigners living there, out of a population of just under 70,000 there is nearly 5,000 foreigners living there.

Eating out at the food courts is so cheap, I had a spicy seafood soup, omelette over rice and a bubble tea for £2

The fish counter in the Big C supermarket, fish was sold per piece with the cheapest being 45 baht and the most expensive 248 baht, we were getting between 44/45 baht to the pound.

I speak to family there frequently and they wouldn't recommend moving there at the moment (they're happy there). There have been some drastic changes in the weather so it would be difficult to judge where to move to.

There is a house shortage (where isn't there?) moving prices up quite quickly. A labour shortage so they are likely to want immigration. Wages are higher than here but living costs are also higher.

Although they have a national health service you usually have to pay to see your GP. Schools sometimes ask for contributions.

I've heard Australia is even more authoritarian than here, they control your every move.

I'm on my way out of Morrisons supermarket this morning and I get cornered by this bloke regarding writing wills.
Get a lot of chatter and then he tells me they are doing them half price £59, so on and on goes the conversation, apparently they do it all over the phone.
I get a phone appointment, he then says I'll send you a link for paying the money, I said OK, has it arrived yet, yes, ok so you can now pay it.

                    What right now?
                    Yes ,
No I dont do things like that, I need to think about it.
Well it will cost you double if you dont pay now.

I walked out, he said I had 14 days to change my mind, I dont care.

Why the hell did he think I was going to pay for something like that in advance from someone who I'd never met before.

His only defence was that Morrisons wouldn't let him be there if it was a scam.

Driving down the motorway this afternoon I started to wonder if anybody had bothered to read the Highway Code, or had seen any of the adverts about lane hogging. At one point I was in the inside lane and the car in front of me must have been at least 300 yards ahead. Middle and outside lanes were both busy. Further down I was in a situation with at least 200 yards between me and the vehicles ahead of and behind me, and an almost completely empty middle lane. Cars were nearly nose to tail in the outside lane. At all times, I was travelling at between 65 and 70mph.

I've worked there a couple of times and there's a lot of similarities to the UK but it also feels significantly different. I know plenty of people there too so there's options.
Not looking to rush anything; I haven't mentioned my disillusionment to Mrs L yet! This place just feels like it needs a massive kick up the arse

Might I suggest, speaking as a female of the species, this step should be taken fairly early on in the decision-making process.
