I can't eat the batter @fairygirl so haven't tried either. My grandson's tried both but he wasn't too impressed.

It's about time fireworks were banned from sale to the general public and used only for organised displays.

There have been hardly any going off tonight. We used to have a Council organised display and bonfire, but that was stopped some years ago to save money. Also a sports ground had one that was very near and spectacular, but they closed down. Now our near luxury hotel has been taken over for asylum seekers so there's nothing there either. So all very quiet.

Not very fond of batter either @Sheal- I have the 'special' when I have fish [breadcrumbs] although I used to enjoy battered fish in my yoof.
Noisy here last night, but it didn't stop me falling asleep on the settee.
A deer had to be put down up in the north east though, after falling off a cliff edge. They reckon spooked by nearby, unofficial fireworks.

A social club about a mile from us use to have a massive firework display and the bangs from that would literally make the windows rattle. Sadly the club closed earlier this year, but I don't miss the fireworks.

Dreadful bangs from the local school bonfire night. Made me glad that I don’t live in Gaza or Lebanon or Ukraine just now.

Just reading yet another report of somebody begging for help after not taking out travel insurance and then being injured on holiday. When will people learn just how stupid it is to save a few quid in the short term but suffer the consequences later?

Think you are quite right. I have no experience of Travel Insurance but do those companies involved have a good record of paying out/assisting when something goes wrong ?
Just thinking about all the reports you hear re insurance companies in general trying, and often succeeding, in wriggling out of their obligations.
Travelling to foreign climes these days can be a minefield - literally in some cases.

In this instance there is no insurance company involved because the injured person didn't have travel insurance. My sister-in-law was taken ill on holiday earlier this year and the insurer there took care of everything.
The case above involved a young woman who was doing absolutely nothing wrong at the time of the incident. She was sitting in an outdoor cafe when hit by a paraglider who had lost control. If the paraglider has insurance they may eventually be able to claim off that, but it doesn't help at present when the bills have to be paid before treatment will be done.

Most companies pay out in almost all similar situations and only tend to try and wriggle out of paying if the incident that causes the problem is a medical one that the person had prior knowledge of and didn't tell them.

With holiday insurance you need to tell them about even most simple things. I had a slight problem last year when I declared that I had been given antibiotics by my dentist because on my annual checkup I had a slightly sore gum and she prescribed them 'just in case'. The insurer wouldn't insure me because I had taken the antibiotics within the last month. So I didn't take out insurance then and called them back two weeks later. Their insurance was a freebie with the booking of the holiday as an inclusive benefit. :rolleyespink:

They'll wriggle out if they can but for accidents virtually all insurers pay out with very little pushing.

People should never go abroad on holiday without proper insurance. There are different levels if insurance depending on things such as the cost of the holiday and where you are going. I only get quotes from companies recommended by Which? but there are others that are OK.

A bit of a silly moan from me. I was watching TV earlier and one advertisement came on that caused me to turn the sound off as their backing music was so discordant. They obviously weren't aiming their product at me :rolleyespink: :heehee:.

I seem to remember that their name was Chums and were selling clothes but I decided to make a cuppa and took no more notice of them.

This was in the newspaper. I was so angry, I almost cried. My Dad was in Lancasters helping to push back to preserve our true freedom in WWII and I found this news totally vile. This is cultural appropriation for evil purposes. In my humble opinion. I copied to the body of the article below but also here is the link if anyone wants to check the bona fides of this published piece.

WARMINGTON: 'Deeply offensive' — Remembrance Day poppy exploited to honour Hamas leader

There are few things more vile than hijacking the poppy to honour the death of a murderous terror leader. But it has happened. It seems, there’s no shame or honour anymore.

But not everybody rolls over to the will of the bullies. Known for not ending any desecration of Canada’s most precious symbol of sacrifice, the Royal Canadian Legion says a meme using poppies to promote a martyr’s vigil violates the Legion’s trademark and should not be used.
“We are aware of this post and have asked that it be removed,” said the Legion’s communications manager Nujma Bond.
For the first time, the Royal Canadian Legion is offering its Poppy Campaign through a storefront on Amazon.ca Photo by Royal Canadian Legion
The Royal Canadian Legion has asked a Mississauga rally organizer to take down this rally invitation in that it violates the Legion’s poppy trademark.
“The Legion does not mess around when it comes to the poppy,” said Brian Patterson, director of the Ontario Last Post Fund. “They are sending a cease-and-desist letter over there immediately because using poppies in this way is an insult to every fallen service member and every veteran too.”

The incident where the woman was injured was in Old Deniz where paragliders land on a strip of ground outside the bars and cafes on the seafront.
upload_2024-11-10_18-29-6.jpeg That's a landing going wrong. The object on the right is a large billboard and they landed on the beach amongst sunbathers.
They should be coming directly towards me! Like this one!! The 'landing strip' is where the man on the left is standing. There are no warning signs and no warning as they come in.

That would almost certainly have been covered by all holiday insurance companies. Always take out holiday insurance. It is reasonably cheap - unless you are ancient like me! :old:

Looks a pretty stupid place to be landing and just an accident waiting to happen.
