I'm not quite sure what you are saying. Obviously (I suppose) that 2.6bn is included in the 67.5bn. There are many other factors in costs to the NHS caused by bad diet as well. Too much sugars, salt, saturated fats and especially processed foods, as well as many others - all of which would be OK in moderation. These cause problems such as Diabetes, obesity, problems with arteries etc.

It is not too difficult to eat more healthily as good foods such as fruit and veg are not expensive. I never did understand the argument of lack of time as an excuse. I think it is a combination of lack of education in cooking and nutrition added to lack of confidence plus some other factors.

A lot of people don't want to peel a spud or carrot etc then spend time cooking it

I often wonder how they actually come up with these statistics and who are they paying and how much, seems to me to be just a pointless statistic.

What food are we supposed to eat.

Apparently the aging population is costing too much as well.
            Its just a joke.

Food that is not quite as adulterated as most of the fast foods and those high in sugar, salt and saturated fats. They're quite easy to avoid if you do your own cooking - but allow yourself some 'naughty' times. :blue thumb:

I don't really eat the so called healthy stuff, but I do my own cooking, I just think you can make your life miserable keep worrying about this kind of stuff.

Often its a matter of quantity that people eat, I've never been a big eater, although as I have aged I do seem to get more hungry, compare that with less activity than some years ago and it adds up to increased weight.

              I've never liked carrots.

I suppose it depends on whether you just cooked bought pre-prepared foods - or not.

I'm, just now, cooking roast chicken, roast spuds, broccoli and courgettes. All quite healthy but not particularly strict on being extremely healthy. That will be followed by apple (home grown) crumble - which is a healthier version of crumble made with ground almonds as it has to be gluten free. Admittedly, ground almonds are more expensive than flour. I shall be using Greek yoghurt with it.

I just had baked salmon with onions and peppers and garlic, cooked in olive oil, with pesto.

Some deep fried pink kerr potatoes.

Totally agree @shiney . It's not all about food that we eat.
The lack of movement on fresh air is the second killer. Saying that on a gardener's forum is of course not needed, but I'm always surprised how little people just walk on fresh air. I remember years ago, the NHS made a survey and found that 70% of the English have a walk of less than 30 minutes a WEEK .
