The number of Animal Charities requesting donations - particularly prevalent at this time of year yet don't seem to hear much about them campaigning to ban the sale of "pets" on line. Whilst such a ban may not be a cure all, it would at least be a start. Constantly asking for money to repair the damage caused instead of attempting to deal with the basic issue is simply Pis*ing in the wind.

I have had a reply to the angry letter sent to our Labour MP re the Waspi compensation. As expected, it’s basically the Tories fault and the £22bn black hole gets a mention….

You should have challenged him/her to be creative and not mention the Tories or black holes in their reply whilst justifying the about-face perpetrated by his leader and the Chancellor, especially after the political editor on the Beeb reported the MOD (I think) spending £600 on two document cases when something adequate can be bought for £39 in the H of P shop!

The person who wasted that money and the person who authorised it should both be sacked immediately, required to refund the tax-payer and barred from any further public service job. End of.

Like the BBC - never to blame, never wrong! :th scifD36:

Well done for trying though. I don't think the Westminster bubble really appreciates what a long tail this may have. It could result in the end of the two party system down the line a bit ... and then all bets are off as to where things head.

I see both sides of that coin - not condoning his actions, but the harsh reality is that we've closed so many public conveniences since the 80's, it is remarkable... and folks like him (as you know too, more than most) are being pushed harder and harder all the time, with no allowances made for hunting for loos etc.

I'd have gone right back to them and pointed out the £20bn for Ed's mechanical trees, the £12.6bn being sent abroad for 'climate aid', both of which among many other things are political choices, not needs of the country. Just those two things would have given sufficient funding for the WASPI compensation, plus the winter fuel allowance and cleared the so called black hole.

I just think the government, Labour, have found out that its not who we vote for that actually runs the country, its the civil service, and they, government, cant do what they want, their hands are tied.

Starmer did allude to this the other day and not that I have too much time for him I think he probably has a point.

Yes, and it didn't help with the motorway being closed for a very long time which doesn't help as traffic was bad, nearist loo is 10 miles away and i think it may be closed as well, so then it would be 15 miles for a loo, we get daily pee stops but poo stop are now being coming common as well, not to bad if they pick it up but they don't, it as bad as the dog walkers not picking up then you get the farmers not cleaning up and we have poo on top of poo and i'm getting fed up of cleaning it up :frown:

Very easy way out of that for a PM. A massive round of redundancies - change the role of each job a bit, advertise it with new conditions and take on the right folks, and only the ones you really need.

It would mean a serious clear out of dead wood that has languished for years in jobs for life.
Not sure how you can go against the establishment like that and expect to survive, they would close ranks and make life very difficult.
Before you know it there would be another general election and someone more amenable would be in the frame.

I often wonder where government leaks come from, its assumed the government its self but I tend to think more likely those faceless powerful people lurking in the background whoever "we" choose.

Their hands are not tied, they just don't want to change! I get this every day, which is also public sector, and so many excuses given and it is absolutely just unwillingness to change or challenge a process because it doesn't suit their cushy lifestyle

Or sticking with a process because it justifies their own existence - - we do, because we can.
