Of all the... I think I'm missing the lockdown! I liked it when people weren't on your g.d. heels when you're going through the cash at the shop

I see that Ofcom are saying it will be OK for the Royal Mail to do 3 deliveries a week, I will be very pleased about that, we are lucky to get one or two here.

At my local Sainsbury's they've installed a camera and screen at each self service check out, so you can watch yourself scanning each item and putting it in your bag. Apparently this is an attempt to reduce "leakage".
Walking home I came up with two simple ways round it.

Just reading something and it refers to life in the Edwardian era.
Why cant they just give you dates, its stupid because not everyone, especially me, knows which kings a queens were on the throne at what times.
Victorian, Elizabethan, Georgian none of it means anything to me nor half the world I would guess.

It's all really simple and straight forward.

The Eras were named after the reigning monarch.

So the Edwardian Era started in 1901 when Edward VII (he of the King Edward potato ) came to the throne and it continued until 1914.

          See! It's simple .

          Oh! I forgot!

Edward died in May 1910 but someone forgot to change the Era. :rolleyespink: Maybe that was because all the politicians were too busy doing what politicians always do - argue about who should be in power (certainly not the monarch). So the January 1910 election was followed by the December 1910 election with almost the same result as the January one.

I think that Germany decided, in 1914, to remind us about it by sending Zeppelins over. Zeppelins were quite slow so didn't arrive until early 1915 but were more on time than our trains.

@pete you probably remember all about when Alfred the Great's grandfather King Egbert of Wessex kicked out King Beornwulf of Mercia and rescued all you men of Kent (and Kentish men) from the dastardly Mercians. That was when Baldred ruled Kent for the Mercians. Baldrick from Blackadder was thought to be one of his descendants. :heehee:

Because it was the "start of a campaign of civil resistance with the clear demand... of the social security of sustainable food".
By wasting a can of soup?

Well they can ponder life choices by sitting in a French gaol for a while. I have nothing but contempt for posturing like this

Why are chemist shops so empty.
All around here just have empty shelves or at least big gaps.
But go to the supermarket and it's all there it's been like that for months now.

Not round here, other way round. The only supermarket we visit, Sainsbury's, have actually kicked out their in store pharmacy, think it's a nationwide decision. There is a big gap where all the medicines used to be.

Well a lot of it is the kind of stuff that used to make the shop look full is what you are saying, cosmetics and deodorants shampoo, its as if they have just stripped themselves back to a few medicines, and not much of that either, just a few of most things.

When I had my knee done back in September the day after the op I had chronic indigestion, all kinds of anaesthetics just shut down my digestive system for a couple of days, anyway I said Gaviscon usually works on me, but they said they cant get it, in short supply, and gave me some useless liquid stuff.
But prior to going in I had bought a big box in Morrisons:dunno: You have to wonder who is getting priority.

Why do they make plugs so thin these days ? They obviously don't realise that when you're old and have arthritic hands, you need something you can grab hold of properly to unplug it !
