Strange regarding privatising parts of the NHS, first thing is everyone seems to throw their arms in the air and say it should never happen.

Next thing you hear is Doctors are quitting the UK for Canada, USA, Australia because its better there.
Are those countries running an NHS?????

I think it is the way that it has been done - PFI absolutely loaded up some NHS trusts with debt payments, and those payments will chew huge portions of their budgets for the next 20 years or so.

So basically things are never going to get better.

As probably the only person here who is both, a dr. and has worked in the USA, I think I am qualified to say, that the NHS is far better, and if only we looked after it, and the staff better, they would stay. I earned more money as a trainee in Holland, than I earned for several years as a consultant here.

PS I have lots of letters BM MB BSc FFARCS FRCA DICM....... and I can change a plug.

I don't think that there are many who would disagree that the staff are treated poorly, particularly in comparison to other countries @Punkdoc - indeed, the entire organisation has been let down by successive governments, but the real damage was done by Blair and Brown.

PS - you are quite unique... I know quite a few folks that are all brains and no common sense.

AH yes, but you should see me attempt to put a bathroom cabinet up, one door wouldn't open because I had placed it so close to the corner.

But surely all these countries that look after their staff better, and the places our trained health workers aspire to work, are funded differently to the NHS.

Luckily, due to progress, I don't need to know how to change a plug seeing all appliances and devices are sold with moulded plugs.

But if I had to change a plug I'd struggle, I never can/could remember which way round the brown and blue wire goes.

Again, thanks to progress, I don't have to know how to change fuses, I just recharge the trip switch.

Now if only I could stop the kitchen tap from dripping :gaah:

I taught my girls how to change plugs when they were big enough to manage a screwdriver @Jenny_Aster . They may never need to do it, but they understand how it works :)

I'm too stingy to buy these new fangled things with moulded plugs so have a stock of plugs. Someone also mentioned to me that they also buy new clothes!
