The hospital just called and said do you really want to cancel this appointment, so on the strength of all this on here I've decided to keep the appointment.
        Thanks for all your input.

I’m so glad @pete … thanks for letting us know. I really hope they find there’s nothing for them to do, but if there is it’s best to get it seen to as soon as poss …especially the way things are at the moment. :fingers crossed: Best of luck.

I tend not to listen doctors on the subject of car mechanics, but they can be useful on medical matters.

Changing the subject, we were rather annoyed when we arrived at the cemetery yesterday, where my mother and other family members are buried, to find that the new owner of the big posh house opposite has erected a notice on the only layby in the private lane saying "Private Land, Please do not Park here" . I've been parking there very occasionally for over 40 years and it's the first we've known about it. We always assumed it was the church authorities who had organised the layby so mourners can access the back of the churchyard to pay their respects and lay flowers, tidy up graves etc.

We were told the new owner owns part of the lane and the strip of land outside the cemetery wall. I reckon they are just trying it on - a parked car probably ruins the view from their upper windows towards the church! We did move the car however into the cemetery entrance bit as we didn't want any hassle.

If the road’s not Adopted he’d better be wary of p’ing off the other ‘residents’ as no doubt he’ll be wanting them to pay a share for the road’s upkeep … and a consensus may have to be reached about when that needs to be done. Users of the cemetery may not be as fussy about the condition of the road as he is. ;)

The road's not Adopted @Dovefromabove, it's more of a old farm track, slightly updated with a bit tarmac/gravel surface, Used to have some fearsome potholes you could drown in! It's in a very ancient village and there are lots of these old tracks in and around the main streets. There now quite a few posh (think millions) new individual houses dotted along the back lane so they all must or should have rights of way/easements and responsibilities for upkeep. They're definitely not short of a bob or two! The land opposite the church used to be fields/gravel pits until about 20 years ago so the owners are all 'newcomers'. I suppose my grandparents were too, back in the early 1940's.

Sounds like he's opening a can of worms. I understand that if the land has been in general use for 20+ years, it becomes a right of way. Think I'd be seeking those on the Parish Council to see what they are doing about it, then maybe crowdfund to raise money for the services of a solicitor. Worth looking into.
