Latest Moan From You and Me 2025

We got a water meter installed and our bills dropped dramatically, can’t remember the figures, but probably under half what it was before. Previously our bills were based on our home’s rateable value, rather than what we used, and we live in an expensive area.
Lovely car, @Fat Controller. OH still moans over our old TR6 which we sold over 40 years ago! Wishes we had hung onto it, and he could have kept it in good nick, forgetting that back then, we didn’t have the room or the money for it. Not very practical when the two kids arrived. I’m probably being paranoid, but I’d have blanked out the registration number on the photos though. We once had both our number plates stolen from the car in a local car park. Luckily the thief was caught that very night, with the plates in his boot, while committing some other crime. It has made me very wary about potential for cloning ever since!

 

Not sure yet how much our water has increased by as we pay every 6 months . Always on a meter when in France and Spain and the same in the UK since our return in 2011. I have the impression that a metered supply can often work out cheaper than that based on the rateable value but obviously it also depends on how many in the household, how much rainwater you can save and use and how much is wasted.

 

I water the pots mostly in summer and end up filling 5 water butts on a fairly regular basis when its dry, I do water the veg if things get really bad, but try not to.
I'm still considered a light water user, compared to my neighbours, according to Mid Kent Water.
I'm also on a so called social tariff due to my income, not sure if that saves me any money.

 

Not come across a Social Tariff before @pete - is that only applicable if not on a meter or based on income alone ? Location/supplier too maybe ?

It SE water not Mid Kent, they changed their name, my waste water is done by Southern Water.
