Discussing TV if you change your provider from Sky do not believe them if they say they will sort out your TV contract with Sky. I found out to my cost that Sky will only cancel your TV contract if you speak to them directly.

I dont know about sky, but I keep getting hassled by Full Fibre saying they will pay my exit fees from Virgin and also sort it all out.
I dont believe them to be honest and am sure it will go wrong with me trying to sort it out in the end.

Government has binned plans on stopping gas boilers. Not a huge shock as I can't remember a promise or target a government has managed to meet!
There were also plans to require new builds to have solar and heat pumps and that's now optional meaning the owner has to shell out for it and not the whining developer.

True, but to meet those promises or targets, there needs to be legislation in place if there going to make something unlawful.

Cars that run totally on fossil fuels were to be banned by 2035, then BJ brought that forward to 2030, which then was pushed back to 2035 by Sunak and now has been brought forward again by the labour party.

Peat-based compost was to be banned to the retail sector from the 1st January 2015, then 2020, then 2025, here we are in 2025, no legislation, no ban. So all these things have one thing in common, no legislation, so how can it be unlawful.

My experience with the banning of pesticides and chemicals in the past is, a phasing out timescale.

The manufactures would be first to stop manufacturing, unless they were still permitted to sell to other countries, then the wholesale and distributers would have a phasing out period, then finally the retailer, so each sector within the chain would have a phasing out timescale.

So this proposed banning the sales of peat-based composts has not been what we have experienced in the past. I was kind of expecting a phasing out period through the chain very similar to what we have experienced in the past, so we all had time to sell off any remaining stock.

Waitrose are useless for online home deliveries here. The trouble is, unlike other grocery supermarkets that do online orders, they fill your order from the local branch’s shelves rather than from a warehouse. I regularly order four loaves of a bread that we like, to freeze and to see us through to the next order, and as often as not I get one. I ordered ten tins of cat food and got three. Pathetic.

I have just seen a headline that says Elon Musk’s father states Tommy Robinson will become PM!

Well … I nearly choked on my coffee. I suppose there may be a parallel universe somewhere where this prediction comes true. Luckily, I don’t inhabit it.

Never say never. Who would have believed in their wildest nightmares that the people of America would vote Trump back for a second term? Soon to be president of Greenland, if he can have his way.

                  I suppose …

But I’m not sure William Hill (other gambling firms are available) would be too worried about any bets placed.

I understand the date has now been moved to 2027 :noidea:

I'm still buying peat based compost as I still haven't found a reliable non-peat one.

Neighbours have been trialling different non-peat ones but even two bags of the same compost, bought together, are different.

If nothing else, it shows Musk's political leanings. No surprise of course from a Trump supporter.

At the moment, nobody knows, mainly because of the "Internal Marketing Act" which would still allow peat based composts to be lawful sold in England if they are not processed and bagged in England.

But what about the growers, the plan was for the retail sector to be banned from selling a peat based compost from 2025, then it would be unlawful to sell plants grown in peat from 2027.

Are they planning to ban both sectors in 2027 or do the growers get another 2 years pushing it back to 2029 for them

The uncertainty was causing me so much stress, that is why I decided to call it a day. With running down my packaging of composts containing peat, it put me in the dilemma of, do I replenish the packaging only to find out they pushed the ban through by the Private members bill.

Businesses, especially manufacturers need to invest to go forward when we are lead to believe something is going to be unlawful to produce and sell in the future. All this talk about gas boilers, combustion engine cars and peat based composts being banned, is just that, talk. The previous government set a date that gas boilers would be banned, but a law was never passed.
