I signed up way before 2017, @JennyJB, but I could still ring them. They would probably suggest a new router. I may do that if things don’t get back to “normal for me”.

It is sunny and up to 36f 2c. The guessers say tonight we begin the plunge back into the freezer. And promise only 4 or 5 more days of subzero temperatures. Maybe spring will start this next weekend! ;)

internet speed 24 up 11 down.

Internet service is like gas, electricity, car insurance etc. Worth shopping around when the contract is up for renewal, or every so often if you're not on a fixed term deal.

With an internet package don't make the mistake I did. Many years ago I got my internet access via BT and used their email service. Consequently I have dozens of businesses and organisation who contact me using the .....@btinternet.com address. If I move I will have to pay BT for the privilege of continuing to use that address. It's going to take months to track down everybody who uses the address if I want to go to a more generic supplier.

Why not sign up to another email account now and start moving people across slowly. The most important accounts first.
When I did it, I used my email history as a guide - sorting my mail box by sender.

I've been doing something similar for a year or so now, as soon as I get an e mail from anyone in the old adress I go into the account and change it. Takes a while but got most over to the new one now, just the ones I dont care about now on the Virgin mail.

I use a generic email for most things and the Plusnet one only for my closest friends. That way, losing it would not be a problem as I could let everyone know easily.

@Escarpment That is what I will do, a slow switch, but it's going to be a pain in the wotsit to do.

I don't know exactly what package it is (OH chose it) but it won't be the most basic/cheapest. It's full fibre. The infrastructure is CityFibre (they dug up the whole area to lay it several years ago) and our package is from Zen Internet, who are not the cheapest (and don't claim to be) but consistently do well when Which? looks at internet providers, and OH likes the reliability, and he likes the router that they provided. He's a gamer so not getting even the smallest dropouts is more important to him than a really high download speed.

We are planning to move our email from Google to a European alternative. Addresses etc now set up, but haven’t yet started the move. I think it could take up to a year, obviously friends and family first, but I’ll leave the old account open for any random annual reminders that I’ve forgotten about!

@Ergates what European options are there? Genuinely interested to know.
