I remember that as well, there was a steel works there until 1981 when it was closed. The demolition and site clean up resulted in a lot of toxic dust being spread around the town, resulting in a major court case; this was dramatised on Netflix recently as Toxic City.
A lot of Scottish workers moved down to work in the steel works and the iron mining giving the area a distinctive flavour.
Tata Steel still have a works there.

50000 Tones of coking coal from Japan, is on a ship alongside the quay at the steel plant, It just needs paid for before they will discharge the cargo or take it elsewhere

People may not think Virgin steel is important (why not melt a few scrap cars down) Virgin steel is very important for a country

Have spoken to a very nice chap at Plusnet about my slow speeds. He looked up my router type and was aghast I had such an ancient model. Apparently obsolete does not begin to cover it and the fact I have any connection at all via it is something close to a miracle.

Anyway, a new one has been ordered up. Do I have to pay anything, I asked. Oh no … well, except £6.99 postage. Seems quite steep for a small oblong package, but there we are. :dunno:

Nice but really I dont think you should have to pay anything, its their equipment, they should upgrade it for free under your contract.

Four years ago BT sent me a new router, no charge for it nor the postage, as they said it was cheaper than checking (sending a man - their sexist words, not mine :)) whether the one I had just needed adjusting.

As mine started working OK before it arrived it is still in its package. :noidea:

The equipment is free, @pete. It’s just getting it to me, by private helicopter possibly, that costs! ;)

Hmm! :th scifD36: Where’s my little man then? Or a medium sized one would do! TBF, if the new router does not do the trick, they will send an engineer, male or female, large or small. Clearly they regard the plugging in of their routers as something even a tech numpty can do unassisted.

:blue thumb: I will do my best! Routers are mysterious magic boxes as far as I’m concerned. Bit like electrical sockets. I plug something in and it works, though the process of getting the power from its source to my end use is just one of those unexplainable marvels of modern life.
