Until someone comes up with a way of actually destroying a substance rather than just altering it the problem will go on.

Perhaps you could get a better price if you buy a job lot.

Pesky atoms! It’s probably best if humans don’t find a way of destroying those, given what muppets we are at running the planet. ;)

Too late we've got nuclear fission already. We also know we can bang matter and antimatter together to get annihilation, we just need more antimatter and better tools for handling it.
You can also lob atoms into a black hole, just need a readily accessible black hole.
Some atoms also have a tendency to fall apart without human intervention.

We have one of them here. We're always losing things so they must be disappearing into a black hole.

Cheer me up, why don't you? ;)

Apparently, Liz Truss has had her lawyers send Starmer a "cease and desist" letter in an attempt to prevent him saying she crashed the economy. Hmmmm! Well, what goes around, comes around. For yrs, Tories have bleated at every opportunity that they were left with a terrible economic situation in 2010, so they can't really complain if these tactics are now used against them.

Of course the Parsis in India used their towers of silence and the local vultures to deal with things for thousands of years. Until the chemical industry introduced a treatment for some cow disease which the vultures ingested and died of. 97% of the vultures disappeared and now the towers of silence are silent.

The drug was the non steroidal anti inflammatory diclofenac, this was used to treat pain in animals and humans, so cow limps give diclofenac. The problem was exacerbated by the farmers being able to buy it without prescription so they doled it out like smarties.
Since 2006 it has been banned in India, Nepal and Pakistan, Bangladesh banned it in 2010.
Unfortunately diclofenac is still easily available in India. An alternative anti inflammatory meloxicam was introduced in the region.
Since then a conservation and captive breeding programme has reduced the decline.
Diclofenac is still used in Europe and is available in Spain on veterinary prescription. Spain is home to 91% of Europe's vultures. Apparently it's use is considered less of a problem there as the EU has regulations saying that animal carcases must be buried (in part to protect water courses). So the vultures are short of food in Spain which is why there have been more reports of them being spotted in UK and Northern Europe.

I saw that a while ago Tidemark, it was very sad.

We could do the equivalent here with red kites. I went to one of the farms that feeds them last year and it was magnificent to see hundreds of them sweeping down for food, only a few yards away. The meat didn't look particularly appetising, so I don't think they'd be to worried who they ate.

Diclofenac is still used worldwide in humans, it can be bought over the counter in any pharmacist.

I am getting quite angry with the stupid people who think this business of Trump threatening to annex Canada is funny. A light jab at first yes, because our prime minister is a pandering idiot that we can all hardly wait to see the back of but no, repeating it over and over is annoying. Most Canadians do NOT want to become part of the U.S. I for one would be happy to give a lift to the border, for free, to anyone saying they think it's a good idea.

Just to clarify that statement, it has not been available in the UK without a prescription since 2015

Still available as a gel, which is readily absorbed systemically.

Trumpy the flatus is aping his hero Mr Poo-tin. He wants to annexe something, anything, to show that he’s as good as the excrement container in Russia. Plus, of course, the more he gets the other members of NATO riled up at the thought of one of their borders being moved, and the more the other members of NATO invest in defence spending, the happier he will be and the more his past expressions that they do just that will be satisfied.

I've never understood why people take what Trump says literally, it's like the stupid comment about injecting bleach into people during covid.
He talks a lot, bear in mind he isn't a politician who has spent years pussy footing around so as to just offend nobody, we have had enough of those that achieve nothing because they appease every one all the time.

Yeah, he says stupid things, but so did Biden, but most of the time he was incoherent so he never offended anyone.

I heard some one on the TV say yesterday, he's not saying this stuff, like wanting to take over Greenland, fo our benefit, it's a warning to Putin about taking parts of the world that Europe is too weak to hold.
He's telling Europe to get off its backside and start looking after itself, Britain included.
