At our doctor's surgery, when you say you've come for an appointment, the receptionist now says can you please scan yourself in on the screen on the wall. I'm just waiting for my next visit and I will say "why don't you press your finger on the screen in front of you". I watched other people and it didn't work. It's the last thing you need if you're ill.

We automatically book ourselves in on the Surgery's screen when we arrive for an appointment and always use the anti-bacterial hand gel provided. No problem.

And for a man obsessed with air quality, 10 mins of massive explosions throwing billions of particles into the atmosphere seems a surprising thing to put your name to.

I use the antibacterial gel too but it doesn’t kill viruses like Norovirus.

Yeah, maybe he should pay the congestion charge based on the amount of carbon emissions.

Yes, some airlines allow you to check-in a lot sooner than your departure date, but it will depend on the type of ticket you purchase or there can be a fee.

I have heard of a couple budget airlines allowing you to check-in 30 days before departure, but I think it depends on the type of ticket purchased. Wizz UK allows you to check-in 30days before departure but that is only for passengers that have booked and paid for their allocated seat at the time of booking. If they did not pay for an allocated seat, then online check-in is only available 24hrs before departure. I think Jet2 have something similar as you can check-in 28 days before departure and Ryanair I think its about 60 days.

Residents in the middle east can actually have there baggage collected 24/48hrs before departure depending on the fare type they purchased, don't think its offered for the return leg if its outside your country of residence.

When I book through the Middle East airlines I always book economy, but there is different types of economy, the higher the price of the fare then extra baggage allowance is allowed plus other things.

We always carry spare copies of the picture page in the passport in case of loss of passport (always recommended by travel gurus) - and of insurance and any other booking info. Over 60 years of travelling abroad has taught us a few extra bits of paper are worth the peace of mind.

Carrying a copy of your passport is always a good idea if your in a country where it is law to carry ID. A driving license or a copy of your passport can be sufficient if your asked by the local authorities. It is law in Thailand, but I never carry my passport, only if I am changing sterling which is a requirement. I do carry my driving license and have a photo copy of my passport, with an image of the entry date as well on my mobile.

Now if Ryanair want to go ahead and have no check-in desks, how will they know if all the passengers have a valid visa for the country of destination. I know Ryanair mainly fly to European countries, but there are many people living in the UK who will not be a British Passport holder. I have actually witnessed passengers being refused at check-in as they have not had a valid visa to enter the country they are flying to, there has been plenty of other people had the same problem and sought advise on social media platforms. If a passenger does not have the appropriate visa to enter a country which tends to be issued in the country of departure, then they will not be permitted to leave the airport, let alone enter the country. Then it's the airlines responsibility to fly the passenger back to the departure point as they should of checked they had the appropriate visa at point of departure.

It was only the other day a solo female American tourist who was currently in Thailand wanted to go to Vietnam before the visa exemption for Thailand expired. She said that if she applied online, approval normal takes 48/72 hrs and documents would be emailed to her. She asked on social media if there was a quicker way, most people replied saying that she did not require a visa as an American citizen, they were all so wrong. There is only 25 countries that have visa exemption to enter Vietnam and the length of time varies from 14 days to 90 days depending on nationality, Americans are not on the list. If she had booked a flight and tried to fly from Bangkok to Vietnam, there would of been a very high probability she would of been refused boarding.

I remember back to the days when visas were not required for UK citizens to visit lot of countries. Now it is necessary for most countries. Some countries have simplified versions. It took less than ten minutes for me to get an Australian ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) and cost nothing.

Whereas Indonesia was much more awkward (although you can apply on arrival in Indonesia). If you are applying from here you need to get your photo correct. Their dimensions are different to those required for our passports. Also, you need to show more shoulder than you need for our passport.

@Philippa I have big hopes that Trump will put things back into place once he is in power.
I still remember him saying in 2016, "if you vote for Hillary, you vote for war".
While he was in power, he controlled Russia, North Korea and China. When Biden came and just a year later, we have a world that is going crazy.
His announcement once he is in power, "I will finish the war in Ukraine inside 24 hours" reminded me on that.
              Time will tell.

I’m not sure Trump “controlled” Russia, North Korea or China. I think it was more they were happy to have him as president because they could manipulate him so, on the face of it, they appeared to cooperate.

We are paying the most enormous price for having these out-of-touch elites and their wannabes running the world. Democracy, human rights, the health of the planet - all these things are tottering on the edge of a giant abyss. I hope I am no longer alive when the ever narrowing ledge gives way and society collapses in on itself.
