I have a petrol generator. If the power goes out It's primary function would be to power the fan on the central heating which is natural gas fuelled. I have a wood burning fireplace, Dietz lanterns (3) . I could cook outside in my barbecue, wood oven or sun oven. I also have a foot operated clothes washer which although it has limited capacity does a good job.

That said, I've been extremely fortunate that we haven't had a prolonged power outage in 20 years. If it goes out, it is usually only long enough to force me to reset all the electric clocks.

 

As long as we've got some matches we can light the gas hob, the living room coal effect gas fire and candles. So we would have warm food, a warm room and light. Hubby can heat the bed as I don't seem able to do that. Fortunately we never have power cuts here.
