Re the lab meat, the promo often states it has the texture and taste of real meat, etc. But, surely the point is what is its nutritional profile? If it does not provide humans (or dogs) will the valuable things available from real meat, then it is just an ultra-processed taste-alike.

I bought a can of veggie tuna by mistake some time ago, it was awful, made your teeth squeak, god know what it was made of but it went straight in the bin.

I assume the meat is actually meat as its grown from meat cells rather than an actual substitute substance, sounds a bit like Frankenstein meat to me.

What's the betting they start adding it to processed meat products very soon, sausages etc.

Possibly … but as they never actually mention in all the promo that it has the same nutritional value as real meat, I suspect it does not. Otherwise, they would be shouting that from the rooftops as a huge advantage.

And by any standards it surely comes under the “ ultra-processed” umbrella.

I wonder what they will put on the label,
Free from artificial flavourings or colouring, perhaps.

I didn't see the piece about the lab grown dog treats but if it's produced the same way as it was in the past, then it will be animals cells that are extracted, grown on and fed nutrients. They then mix them with plant proteins. I don't really see why people are so against it, no one would care if it was lab grown sprouts.

My mum did see the bit about it on the BBC and said that it shown a labrador and golden retriever enjoying the treats but since when has either of those breeds turned anything down.

I’m fine with the concept provided the marketed product supplies the same nutrients as real meat in a form that is readily absorbed by the body. If it is just ultra-processed junk calories, I am against it.

How long will it be before all the farmland will be used for solar and wind turbines and our food is produced in a chemical factory?

You just wonder what the nutrients are that the cells are fed on in the lab.
I'm not against it, just would need convincing, might even be better for you than the intensively farmed stringy rubbish we get now, shot full of anti biotics.

If they could grow it with some fat on it like meat used to be that would be a bonus as well.

There's a march against knife crime in Sheffield today. At the end of it, there's going to be a mass balloon release. Why isn't this classed as "littering"? Where do the people think the balloons go?
