I've never used a cash machine and don't go into banks. If I need cash I can withdraw money from my bank account, free of charge, from the village post office.

I can't believe you've never used a cash machine @shiney. What would you do if stranded far from home and needed some extra cash?

I don’t use cash. I use one of three different reward credit cards and earn either cashback or loyalty points every month. Someone who trained police sniffer dogs once told me that most bank notes in circulation are tainted with traces of drugs :thud:. I can imagine coins are equally suspect .

Coincidentally, I made a cash withdrawal at a Sainsbury’s cash point yesterday. It did ask me if I wanted the balance displayed or printed, to which I answered no, as I knew there was enough in the account. However, when I got the receipt, there was the balance printed on it. I do like to have some cash available for emergencies, but mainly only use it for tea money at the women’s group.

The cash machine here has a screen that is so large and so bright that anyone passing by behind you could read your balance without much effort. :frown:

Hi @lizzie27 I have never needed to use a cash machine although I didn't say that I didn't have cash on me :)

If am going to be far from home (and I travel all over the world) I would certainly have cash in different currencies with me but, similarly to @Plantminded mainly rely on credit cards that do not charge me a fee and do give me cash back. It racks up a tidy amount over a year when taking into account normal household/food purchases, insurances, holidays etc. and even car tax.

Tesco stopped doing cash back a couple of years ago. As far as I know Sainsburys still do it. as does my local Coop.

Sainsbury's do still offer a Cash back option which has been saved up using their Nectar card - they will just knock it off your bill if you ask. Not exactly "cash" but useful.

Apparently, around 80% of $1 bills have traces of cocaine.

I remember reading once about someone who had supplied thousands of pounds worth of goods to Tesco. They delayed and delayed paying him and eventually gave him the option of getting his money but having his goods withdrawn from future sale or not being paid for the goods provided so far but having a contract with them into the future. He chose to be paid and lose the future business as the other route would have sent him into bankruptcy. Not much of a “choice” really.

I don't understand how any business can remain "liquid" with no fixed payment terms. It's asking for exploitation of the small by the big.

In Belgium there is a legal 30 day limit which can be extended to 60 days if supplier and customer sign a contract. It's the same in France tho here, with mutual agreement, payment due dates can be extended to 45 days from the last day of the month payment is due.

Seems eminently sensible and fair to me.

Where I used to work on the apple orchards the manager told me that Tesco's just told them how much they would pay for the fruit, no negotiation, take it or leave it and they can always import from Europe cheaper and earlier.
Not sure how sustainable that kind of thing can be but probably be a solar farm soon anyway.

Yes, that was in the news at the time. I don't know how accurate that was but I know it was fairly close to being a delay in the agreed payment time or we won't buy from you again.

That was what was supposed to happen here but I think it only got to being a voluntary thing.

The cash is used for paying the dealer, so it’s not traceable, unless you’re a sniffer dog . Admittedly you’d need a lot of coins for good stuff:roflol:.
