We lost our post office in small town last year. The one in the big town is in WHSmiths which is now closing down. We have one in a small village shop nearby but if that shuts goodness knows where we will go if we ever need to use one.
No Banking hubs here. Think we must be classed as in the Outback up here in the The North East. ;)

It’s like University tuition fees. As soon as a couple raised these to the max allowed, all the others followed suit sharpish.

Our local authority has just appointed a new Chief Executive on a salary of £189k - £17k more than the Prime Minister (I'm not suggesting he should be paid more!). When asked how they justified that salary they said "her salary is within the range advertised for the role and benchmarked against other comparator councils." All that tells us is that other council leaders are grossly overpaid.

Yup. Sounds about right once people get to that level. They don't get sacked for being useless, just move sideways and given a new job to screw up.

Or they can move like the wiggy road marking in clevdon, hope she doesn't bring this sort of thing to Glos  £1.1 million over buget and in the end return to as it was, as this was North Someset council so not sure if she had anything to do with it, but it make you laff at the council

Everyone rises to their own level of incompetence, after that the only way is sideways.

Yes, a sideways slide into receipt of a humungous pension usually. :gaah:

I think it often depends on how far you have risen before you become incompetent.
Of course none of this applies to the "old boy" network, most of who are incompetent from day one, but the sky's the limit.

Back in the late 1980s I worked for a major UK aerospace company which was brought to its knees by a totally incompetent MD/Chief Exec. Hundreds of people lost their jobs due to his actions. Visualise an aerospace version of 'Fred the Shred' at the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Despite almost destroying the company he left with a massive pension pot and moved into a similar job in Monaco!

For paying in cheques, we still get quite a few, we have paying in envelopes sent to us by our bank and we pay in at the Post Office in the village shop. For bank transfers, I do them by phoning a special number at the bank. Don't do any banking online.

                            Who's a dinosaur? :heehee:
