I grew up in a very horsey family; my grandmother had a farm that didn't make any money and loads of horses that soaked up whatever money she did have. We kids used to go off on our own for hours on the horses, riding on roads and over the moors. I would be terrified to do the same now!

Saw Venus, Jupiter and Mars. I may have seen others but didn't know enough to tell the difference. I did know that the bright lights that were moving were planes. :heehee:

And update on my previous post. I didn’t need to bother avoiding Florida orange juice. They are doing a good job of losing business all by themselves.

In today’s news all manner of woes have befallen Tropicana. Hurricanes, some sort of disease called greening, frost, suppliers ceasing to trade. Who lives in Florida? Does he care?

A fascinating read, @Tidemark, especially the facts about the vitamin C content of fruits other than oranges. I have rarely bought fruit juices, the downsides of the acid erosion on teeth and the lack of fibre has always been a major factor. Amazed at the amount of vitamin C in rosehips, but not so easy to make palatable I suppose.
I usually had a bag of dried cranberries in the cupboard to add to salads and coleslaw, I’m now buying dried cherries from Poland as a very tasty alternative.

We used to grow redcurrants and blackcurrants, both of which contain vitamin C. Very useful to freeze and have during the winter months. The redcurrants you don't even have to cook.

I love dried cherries @Ergates but only find them at specialist/expensive stalls in farmers' markets. I use dried cranberiies in my red salad. OH and I have a glass of blood orange juice, with bits, every morning and clean our teeth afterwards. We also have an orange or apple after lunch and yes, loads of things have more vitamin C than oranges. We eat lots of broccoli.

Can't find kale here but I grow it.

We've tried red and blackcurrants here @Fourmerkland but they don't like the heatwaves and, till this last 18 wet months, the drought.

Used to be able to buy redcurrants and blackcurrants from an honesty box at the local farm. Sadly, they gave up their sales during Covid, and the box is now gone. Suitably sunny and flat areas of ground are minimal in our garden, excludes quite a few plants I’d like to grow.

@Obelix-Vendée , I get the dried cherries in Waitrose. Not cheap, but full of flavour. There is an excellent selection of less usual dried fruits and nuts. Go easy on the tooth brushing too soon after the orange juice! Anything acidic will soften the enamel for a while, and lead to the top layer being gradually rubbed away when you brush. If it’s not practical to wait 30 minutes or so to clean after breakfast, it’s quite acceptable to brush beforehand. Gets rid of plenty of the bacteria that are waiting for sugar for their breakfast, and freshens your ‘morning’ breath. Then just rinse with water after your meal to ensure your lovely smile isn’t marred by bits of bacon or cereal! Can also rub a smear fluoride toothpaste around, will be taken up by, and strengthen that top layer, plus helps with any sensitive areas. Sorry for the lecture, I must remind myself I’m long retired, but it’s a bit ingrained!

Don't worry @Ergates I usually get my juice and then coffee in bed and linger reading a while before any toothbrush gets near my teeth.

Just seen the bust up between Zelenski and Trump.
Not sure where that leaves us and Europe funding the war from here on in.
A war he cant win IMO.

I think Zelenski was very restrained and polite. My voice would have got louder and my language would rapidly have reached the gutter.
Perhaps Zelenski should offer his natural resources to China.

Anybody expecting Trump to act in a rational and reasonable way was bound to be disappointed. Trump has got his own way all his life by bullying others, he won't change now.

Here’s Turnip’s own view of how he will be remembered in Gaza. It bears a strong resemblance
to others seen in Stalinist Russia, that chap with the unwritable name in Albania, North Korea today…. And we all know what happens to those statues in the end…
