    They do seem to be high summer temperatures in comparison to what we get over here, where as I say its planted everywhere.
    I hope you can sort out the problem.

    A tad late to the party - but here's my bit:

    - newly planted - they need to be regularly watered in the first year - a good soaking. If only lightly watered the roots will stay where the water is - that it at the surface. The mulch may not have helped by keeping moisture at the surface. Have you thought about winding a leaky pipe around them to make watering less hassle?

    - Laurels don't mind full sun - this shouldn't be the issue.

    - check the plant food - as you have plenty of berries/flowers you may have applied a phosphorous rich feed. For new plants I would lean towards a feed which is higher in potassium so that the roots get a head start.

    As Pete says - the plants don't look that bad - a good regular soaking and they will more than likely be OK.
