    Briggs a Stratton ?
I was under the impression they made engines, my old one was a Briggs and Stratton and it never started, especially when hot.
Never heard of Murray regarding mowers.

They did, or indeed do, make engines - had a pretty good reputation for the most part too. Murray were their spin off brand for electric mowers. Reading just now though, it seems they are a company with quite a mixed past - Murray (bicycle company) - Wikipedia.

Kinda backs up my feeling that it is a bit of an el-cheapo, stack 'em high jobs.

TBH my old mower with the Briggs and Statton engine came from Homebase, I took the first one back because it hardly ever started, and the replacement was a PITA to start, I'd never buy one with one of their engines again.
The Mountfield one I have now has a Stiga engine and its a dream in comparison.

That kinda tells me a lot. When I say I was losing the rag with it today, it is an understatement - the air was blue every time I had to turn the thing over and unchoke it (which was a LOT)

Suffice to say, when I finally stomped into the house, a sweaty mess... Mrs C asked what was wrong "I wish I'd had you upside down as many times as I've had that effing lawnmower upside down today" - - I got shot with a look (yes that look) :heehee:

Not yet - I tried to find some yesterday evening and as yet have drawn a blank. The ones I did find for Murray were all in the £40-£50 ballpark, so not the cheapest of things to take a bit of a punt with. The blades on mine have two offset knock-outs in the central hole, which mean they can only be mounted one way. All of the blades I found didn't have those knock-outs. I'll need to try and get the model number of the lawnmower later and search by that.

Also when sharping leave the filed egde as smooth as pos because sometimes the file marks the grass can hang on, if you look at new blades they are very smooth
When i used to go combining we had 2 sets of knive/plades 1 for just straw serated and a smooth 1 for cutting straw with grass etc

Found a blade! Genuine part too and only £6.35! Minimum order quantity of two though, so I've got a new blade and another spare on the way. Maybe selling them only in two or more tells me all I need to know about the longevity of the blade.
