Why are you putting cardboard on your flower beds?

Because of excessive weeds and the season for these flowers r out n i hope until there next season cardboards and mulch will dissolve in the soil

If the cardboard does disappear into the soil then the bulbs will be o.k.

It all depends on your soil and how deep you have planted the bulbs. I have several thousand bulbs of different varieties that I have planted deeply [up to 18 inches] in my fast draining sandy soil. Some bulbs are more susceptible to rotting from water logged soil than others. I have Tulips that are still flowering after 20 years of being planted.:dunno::snorky:

I would not do that ever. Just put 3 inches of mulch down, not the cardboard. Heavens NO. I have 100,000 bulbs, some have been there for 26 years.

            Good evening @Elina
Before laying down any cardboard/mulch, you will need to know which type of weeds you are trying to deal with. If they are perennial weeds, there is a very good chance they will return.

I'm afraid that, Elina, doesn't depend on how deep you plant bulbs but rather on the kinds of bulbs that you plant.:dunno::coffee::snorky:

Well, there are the usual "suspects" that we plant for Spring, Summer, and, if you're lucky, Autumn............Narcissus, Tulips, crocus, Bluebells, Anemone, Solomon'S Seal, Convallaria majalis, Greater Stitchwort, vilets, Trollius, Bistort, Cardamine, Squill, Ornithogalum, Aconitum, Snowdrop, ..... I could go on. But restricting colours too harshly will cut down your choice of what bulbs to use. It all comes down to budgets, how much space you have, the type of soil your garden has, and your personal taste. I've planted several layers of bulbs, over the years, under a large variety and number of Hardy Perennials in my sandy, quick draining, borders and it has worked well, for me, over the years. While I understand your focus is on Bulbs I think you'll find a mixture of Bulbs and Hardy Perennials might also work for you.:coffee::snorky:

Besides the above from @ARMANDII . you need to get a good bulb catalog. And read the description, they will tell you which month it blooms in, early part of the month, late part of the month, mid part, and how long. Get your self a small calendar and lay out the names in that part of the month they come up/bloom. To my knowledge the latest blooming are in the Allium and Glad family. (those need a very sunny location) Even today, when I take a walk around, I measure what gap is missing and I find the bulb that fits that gap of time, and order it for fall planting. Your not always going to get the exact "type" you like, but to me all flowers are beautiful.

And yes you have to know what type of sun/shade they like. For example I can plant the very early short tulips, as they will come up before the trees get their leaves. But if that shade were there, they would not do well. the typical tulip, we have to find the sunny location for them.

Take your time, my gardens are now 26 years old. And I am still not done.
