    Hello Lottie and welcome ,My seeds are 2 years old that why I'm sprouting them on damp paper towel so I can see if their viable.

      To expand on kernowdreamers post
      You select a few seeds if OLD and place them on wet blotting paper, to see how viable they are to go on and plant the lot later

      ie:- if you put ten seeds on wet blotting paper and after a couple of weeks only two have sprouted then it is not worth you planting up the rest of them
      If however six or more germinate then you know you will have 60% viable seed that you are planting
