Red mite eeuk! I don't see any creatures on the plant. No, no birds in the house. And no other plants either.

Actually, thinking about it, some time ago, maybe when Tree was in the smaller container, I seem to remember noticing evidence that a spider had crawled over it. I got rid of the web and couldn't see any spider on it and the web didn't come back so I thought nothing more of it.

Get a plain white sheet of paper and lay it under the plant. Then give the leaves a thump with your finger. If you have mites some will fall on the paper and start moving around. They are TINY but you will see them on the paper.

Potluck , as it is the only plant you got , try to save it .

1 - lemon from pips will not grow well in pot , as it will become a tree will keep growing , unless you will become a bonsai master or buy a smaller lemon plant like mayer or limonella.

2 - spending money for insecticide and fertilizer will actually cost more then a lemon plant , Lidl had some at £4 , insecticide and fertilizer will cost way more.

3 - mix water and a bit of white vinegar and with a cotton swab, try to clean all the mites , remove all the dead leaves .

4 - get the roots out the pot and check if they are wet , stressed or rotting.

5 - mix a 2 drop of wishing up liquid and water in a water spray bottle and spray the leaves of the plant daily untill the red mites will go away .

try this way and let us know

Not found Red spider mite to be a real problem on citrus, they tend to like softer leaved plants.

I think your pictures are showing sooty mould, does it wipe off with soapy water and a cloth?
If so its likely to be scale insect, which attack the plants without being very obvious, but do leave a sticky deposit, which later grows black sooty mould.

I was thinking of simple mould created by the shower/bath steam , but it`s hard to say from the picture , scale insect on that size plant would have left way bigger damage but it`s not to exclude . The plant is in really bad state it all can be the simple fact that has been in a steamy bathroom .

Yes, Tree has to be saved!!! Was just looking to see what's on the market to kill the little beasties. What do you think of BugClear gun, will it do the trick? It says red mites in the description and you can get it at homebase for £4.49. I will try all your suggestions at the weekend. Thanks again for the advice.

Pete, I had problems with the boogers on my lime tree last winter probably because I had it in the house. It took a while to get rid of them but finally managed it. I will be spraying it, and my other stuff, when I bring it in for the winter.

Well for years now I have probably had the largest Red spider mite breeding factory in the UK.
Most everything gets them at some stage in my garden, but especially the greenhouse stuff.
Strange thing is, that along with Phalanopsis , citrus are one of the few where they do the least damage, these two, the Phals and citrus, usually get scale insect.

Maybe the RSM dont like sticky leaves.
