My mum always used to have a small tin of those in her handbag. Fond memories!

My favourite sweet making shop is in Cheddar Gorge; they do demonstrations nearly every day which is fascinating in itself but it's worth the trip just for the assistant :D

Funnily enough, I was thinking about something like that just the other day.

I was thinking just the other day about young ladies I knew over the years that I fancied, and then I realised there was a strong bias forming. A very large percentage of them worked in chip shops and other takeaways, and one worked in the corner shop which was mostly a sweet shop. Maybe these ladies were just average, but I developed a fondness for them because I associated them with nice food and treats:)

T'is the age old saying: the way to a man's heart is through his stomach ;) (Either that or the takeaway ladies were "beer goggle gorgeous" ;) )

I used to get them sometimes. 3p per stick from Afsel's herbal shop. His shop later got bought out by Holland and Barrett and overnight the stuff doubled in price.

I mentioned this above, we used to get them in Harpenden when I was a child.

Mentioned in posts above , its taken us 2 days at work to remember the name of Mighty Imps , We used to buy them in the little tins . Looks like they are still available in health shops , along with the brown liqourice root sticks that were a penny in my day - but would last for hours !

Just changing tack... watched programme with Nigel Slater talking about sweets, :yay:. It was a real journey down memory lane for me. :cry3:

My father bought a shop year's ago, which he turned into a minimart, and I can remember a Cadbury bar of chocolate for 2p, it was a very thin bar, but it tasted lovely. I used to love eating shredded coconut made to be like tobacco. :spinning:

Red shoelace liquorice , and pinwheels, and a pipe made out of liquorice, with red hundreds and thousands for the ash. Pear drops, which I found out I was allergic to.
sour apples, rhubarb and custard, aniseed balls, the list is endless. :wow:

Happy days, and I remember when I used to go to the Saturday Minors Cinema, we used to spend our pocket money in the sweetshop next door, they did a roaring trade.

Crisp packets with the little blue bag, I used to like sprinkling mine with vinegar.

                        Memorable times. :old:
