No, I didn't know that, Liz. Don't think T&M will ship to me but will have a look around here as you see them fairly frequently.

LOL ...lily (or other) pollen on clothing ......try leaving the stained article in full sun for a few hours ......OR sellotape placed on pollen can lift it OR rub the pollen with another clean piece of the same fabric. The worst thing you can do is to brush it with your hands, because the oils in the skin will adhere it to the fabric. The sunshine usually does it ! M-L

Thanks, M-L, lived in Bucks at the time and there wasn't much sunshine (hot like you and I have now) around then! If we could turn back time ....

PS The sellotape bit is a nice twist! [IMG]

hello everyone on this very cold evening

I've just brought 24 lily bulbs from B&Q. I intend to put them in some wooden planters that i have made. It says on the box that they should be planted 20cm apart. The planters i have made are 40cmx40cmx40cm. How many bulbs should i put in one planter??

    thx in advance Sean [IMG]

You can put them in layers staggered, eg.

    O O
    O O
    X X X X BEING THE LOWER LEVEL. O THE NEXT LEVEL
Put some drainage material at the base of the pot.
Mix some slow release fert pellets in with the compost, place some grit at the base of each bulb and water regularly.

Once flowered, remove seed heads, repott every 2-3 years. Remove bulbils from stem and small bulb from original bulb to increase stock. You can also increase stock by propagating from individual scales from each bulb. Hope this helps and sorry if i'm too late.

Sorry just noticed the spacing is not correct once reply posted. but space the lower level equally apart then the next layer above by about 4" higher and in the spaces above the first layer
    Hope this explains it better.
