Thanks for getting back to me. I will give it a go when I get in, I think it's safe to just do them all (which could take some time ) as I dont want them to appear on another one. I went out this morning and no more beetles sunning themselves as far as I could see, but I think I can see eggs but they are miniscule black lines almost on the leaves but dont look plump or anything yet. I could just be getting paranoid!!

It might just be me, but I have a Helenium right next to the lilies and there are holes in a couple of leaves there too? Do you know if this is something they are likely to go for? I havent seen any on it.

    Thanks again.

Keep your eyes on any Fritillaria as well.

Been on holiday for a week and looked around today, still catching the beetle and despatching with a size 8.

Noticed what looked like eggs on my Fritillarias ( small black lines also red ones ) so whent out with the spray, to all Lillies and Fritillarias.

I am so very annoyed with the damn things! I will have to do then all I think, as they were having a frenzy when I got home today and didn't have chance to get it done. I even caught them in the act.... And promptly squashed them. I have the black lines in places.

Squished a half dozen more tonight .. and captured a couple more Ladybirds to press-gang into battle with the aphids in the greenhouse.

The Lily Beetle is going to be constant "pain" we're all going to have to be on guard against every Spring, Summer and Autumn no matter what method we use, but that's gardening:spinning:

Let's face it, if we had a Perfect Garden, one without the "challenges" of pests, diseases and the failures that we sometimes get, how boring would that be:paladin: So. for me anyway, I'll go along with the quirks of nature, the bugs that eat my prized plants, and the diseases that make the leaves turn brown and fall off, because when you beat all of that and end up with your own little paradise you feel like:happydance::happydance::happydance::happydance:

I killed only one Lily beetle today, and I am now only seeing one at any time so that's good. I've got two 24" low profile pots each with 20-25 Liliies in and they're nearly all undamaged because I've done daily bug patrols and taken action whenever I seen any. In the Greenhouse I have 200 -300 Lilies in deep trays from last year when I split off the bulblets and so far the Lily beetle hasn't got into there - but it's a never ending battle -but as I said earlier, that's gardening:thumbsup::hapfeet:

I've squished 4 of the little gits and got out my magnifying mirror to check for the eggs under the leaves. It's quite satisfying when you squish em!!

I have lines of eggs too - they look a bit like the sorts of eggs that Cabbage Whites lay in clumps, only smaller. I have some Black, and some Red. I presume they are the same critters?

Would netting them be effective? I could chuck some Scaffolder's Debris Netting over the Lillies for the early part of the season to avoid them being half eaten to death,a nd having to dot he squish-patrol each day ...

I'm not sure how effective netting would be, Kristen:scratch: The red gent is quite mobile and a good climber, it also flies, but the real problem is the fact that it pops it's head up in around March/April and continues until the end of October or beginning of November and you couldn't keep the netting on for that long.:wallbang:
