A place where people gather for instant chat. :D
A bit like MSN Messenger or Yahoo messnger, you make a comment or ask a Q, someone answers streight away.

You're talking to someone who is computer illiterate  I wouldn't know a MSN Messenger from the man in the moon. Must find an idiot's guide. [IMG]

Skype is probably the best now, you can have 5 or more talking at one time, voice talk not text, you can also use it for text. MSN messenger used to be only one to one for voice comms, don't know if it has changed.

    Cheers MIKE

Well, I quite like the idea. So many times you're on the site for a short time, make a comment and then have to go back to it the next day. (I'm thinking of the "rant" threads.) Might be nice to post up the topic, give a specific time?/date and then anyone who's interested can "clear the decks" for that. Appreciate what you're saying, Lady. But P.M.ing only gives one persons opinion. For us peasants, living in the sticks, it's nice to get a variety of views. Webmaster, can we run a poll or something? If the idea bombs. We can always cancel it. [IMG]

I love the idea, i could probably find a chat room host too, so its live at all times, you can just pop in and see if someone is in and have a natter, or we can form planned chat times to meet for a natter.

This has always been great for birthday evenings and such i find.

I'm biased though, come the evening i cant move due to blinking health hurties, so its good for company :D

Im in a chat room with a game i play, its ok if theres not many chatting, but if its busy its bedlam, too many different topics going on, it gets confusing, theres a whisper option so we can chat incognito to each other...I think GCs too buzy for a chat room, but thats just my opinion...Dee..

The other forums I use have dedicated chat rooms and they are seldom used. Most people just use the threads to chat along. Another gardening forum I use devotes a thread to 'Sunday Night Chat', the thread is then deleted a few days later and that seems a more popular way of doing it.

I'd still be up for a trial run with a chat room?

I'd even manage it and host it if needed!

My son's who are both computer nerds (their word not mine!) use both the chat rooms and something called 'team speak'.

Chat rooms the boys think seem to take forever to have a proper conversation i.e.you type and then have to wait for others to type back to you.

Not everyone is a quick typer or knows the short cuts in words to allow them to answer faster.

Team speak although it costs around about £5 per month (not per person) is so much better no matter who is on you can chat away to your hearts content it might get a bit busy at times as Dee says but might be ideal for slow typers.

On the other hand if nobody is on at the same time as you both options could become very lonely places indeed!

    Cajary,

It is one of the things I would like to integrate into the site this year.

I am hoping to create a 'front page' (so to speak) for GC, with options for where you want to go, so if you only want to use the forum, you could just save the forum link to your favourites, and you don't ever need to go to the chat area. ther will be other areas available to navigate to, but when I have planned what is going to hapen exactly, I will go into it more.

An idea of the front page is here :- http://www.motormeet.co.uk/ , this is Johns (PC Medic) site, and gives a rough idea of the front page idea.

    Nathan.

[IMG] Some great ideas Nathan, look forward to it all.. Anything that will make GC easier for people to navigate around & use in the future has to be a plus..!! A front page along those lines is a great idea I think.. We have a good sized membership now & it is very popular [IMG] Will just make it look an even better site.. :D When you Google GC now it comes up 1st or second on the list, varies day to day... So that can't be bad!! [IMG] Well done Nathan! [IMG]
