Unless you're on the coast where it warms up marginally:thumb:

We're 20 miles from the south coast, so very much 8b.

When we have been staying over on our favourite Isle,we have been known to have glorious hot weather, while across the water at Wimbledon Cliff Richard has had to sing to the crowds when they used to have their downpours:rotfl::rotfl:{before the new roof was fitted}:D

I lived in Bucks for 23 years plus I lived/owned simulataneously on the Isle of Wight (Bonchurch, most southerly) for nearly 8 years and it was a completely different environment than the mainland ... a micro-climate.

If someone wants to know if something grows somewhere, then I'm afraid the rest of the forum has to know where that person lives ... as the darling Meerkat says .. simples ... click!

Cliff Richard lives 20 minutes from me here .. but what does that have to do with anything .. he grows grapes here and has a winery? :cnfs:

I live on the Kent/East Sussex border, about half-way between Tunbridge Wells in the north and Hastings in the south. However, there seem to be a series of micro-climates dotted around.

Two weeks ago we had 5 inches (125 mm) of snow. A village two miles away had more like 7 inches and Hurst Green, on the A21, about 8 miles away had only an inch. I know because I had to dig my way down our drive on the Thursday and was able to work on the Friday in Hurst Green!

I shan't belabour this folk but the point is ...

If you have a question about ...

.... what should I grow in this corner?
.... what grows outside on my patio?
.... what would look nice in the middle of my lawn?
.... what tree should I buy?
    .... what ???
    .... what ???
    .... what ???

Do you not think it is helpful to those you are asking to tell them, if you chose not to put it in your profile, where you live? For example, I live in South Wales (don't laugh as that's where I come from), what can I plant on a west-facing wall? At least someone may be able to answer rather than if you said "What can I plant on a west-facing wall?" ... As I'm in Portugal, there's no telling what I might say ...

I can grow a houseplant outside here all year long ... I'm sure you cannot do that in Scotland ... or many places in the UK .. so my answers about house Cyclamens blooming at the moment outdoors are useless.

You cannot expect people to give you a sensible answer if you do not give specifics.

Victoria - if you can grow houseplants outside all year, which I am sure you can do. What do grow as houseplants? :D

I only grow them outside Peter. I can't indoors as I live in an old cottage and it's too dark but I do have my Bonsai and some houseplants in the outdoor living room.

So to go back to the original point, it would be a great idea if people did have a location on their profile!! Can it be mandatory when people join (setting up a profile), with at least a proviso that a general location is required? As I said before, for those of us who are paranoid, it doesn't have to be an exact postcode!

I agree that some element of privacy has to be respected. General area would be fine. For a lot of people where they live is something they do not wish to share, nor should have to. I know people who have good reason to keep their whereabouts private.
