@silu definitely notify RSPB and I would be inclined to notify the Environmental Health as well.

Give them a copy of this (it's the Scottish paper 'The Courier'):-

    https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/bus...ews/324178/government-orders-poultry-indoors/

Tell them that you've heard that apart from checking up on properties they're actually using satellite technology to spy on homeowners and that there's a massive fine for not complying.

You would not be telling any lies because you have heard it - from me! :heehee:

          Sorry Shiney
It wasn't the people, the bags were put on the animal after they were shot

I would take real exception with anybody close by who neglected to protect their birds and exposed them to the risk of infection, as our hens would be culled if their birds became infected.

Well with your "support" I have left a message on the answerphone of the offices of our equivilent of Defra. The branch office is only 12 miles from here so they wouldn't have far to come and check it out. If the situation remains the same by Wednesday I'll get onto the RSPB as well and see if that produces some action. Ok these people have maybe 100 birds in total but have a big shed that houses them at night, well big enough to accomodate them during the period of restriction. Their Ducks will no doubt be furious that their pond is out of bounds but not a huge price to pay surely.
If you read that some elderly woman has been drowned in suspicious circumstances in a duck pond that will be me:)

We have 2 people who have chickens at the allotments. We had to post notices on both coops AND on the main gate into the site.

As the birds along the road are out as usual I thought I would just phone Defra to get the low down on the situation. Complete waste of time, couldn't basically have cared less. There is no legal requirement to keep birds inside and therefore is not enforceable. "Oh well there are no reported cases in The UK yet", flaming marvellous. Their only suggestion was to have a word with the owners of the birds. Oh great like that's going to go down well. I don't know why they bothered to even mention that there has been an outbreak across Europe if they aren't going to grow some teeth and enforce it.

I telephoned the RSPB in Edinburgh. They gave me a telephone number they use when contacting Defra. I am pretty certain where I telephoned was not Scotland specific. Certainly the person I spoke to was English. When I originally read the notice re keeping birds inside it didn't read as tho the request was enforceable and was just that, a request.

It may be dated 12th Dec 2016 but it refers to the ban in Norfolk and Suffolk having been lifted a month ago. So it must be an old piece of news. Typical of the Daily Wail :dunno:
