I am even less and have zero inclination to go - besides which, I can't find a stab vest to fit me.

Seriously though, there are things I/we should go and do, but it is no longer as easy for us as I simply don't have the mileage in my legs anymore. The science museum is one I would love to go back to - fascinating place.

Fun fact - I have a relative that works in Harrods.

@Fat Controller, have you thought of using a mobility scooter? A lot of places have them available to borrow.

I have borrowed them at Duxford (need to go back there too) and Beaulieu (need to go back there too) but a lot of places stopped doing them during and after the pandemic. I've been tempted to look at fold up ones that I could lob in the boot, but they cost an absolute fortune, which I cannot justify for the use it would get. Part of the problem for London is that I wouldn't drive there as it just doesn't make sense, so it would have to be public transport with whatever scooter from here and hope it had sufficient range to get me back... hence, I just stay home.

I'm sure if I actually got to London I would find things that interest me, but it just seems to be a really awful place to get to, and I'd never work out how you use the underground these days.
Last time I was there was when they had just erected the London Eye, so probably around 1999, I was working so only saw where I went to do the job.

I remember at one time being asked by a tourist how to get to Harrods, I hadn't got a clue, didn't even know where it was, eventually another tourist stepped in and pointed them in the right direction.
Its just too busy for me and I didn't feel I belonged there, I was the alien, probably would feel even less so these days, it felt very foreign then and unwelcoming.

You did well to see so much in just a few days!

I remember once when I was working in London in one of the tower blocks near Euston, a visitor from the US asking what the really fancy building that they could see out of the window was - was it a cathedral? No I said, it's a railway station and formerly a hotel (this was before it was done up inside and re-opened).

I wouldn’t know how to use a bus there (or anywhere else, for that matter) these days. Time was “public transport” meant a member of the public could get on as they wished, without faff. You got your money out and gave it to the driver or conductor. Simples.

Lovely travelogue, @Ante1 , enjoyed reading it. Pleased you enjoyed it. Have you been to the Chelsea Physic Garden? Or the Museum of Garden History? Both worth putting on your list for next time, if you haven't visited them yet. And Kew Gardens.....and Hampton Court Palace.....the usual touristy things.

If I never see London again it will be too soon! I used to have to go there for work, but I was younger and fitter then. Now just the thought of it gives me the screaming ab-dabs. No thanks. England is SO much more than London.

I really enjoyed my visit there. Public transit was very interesting. You could almost tell where you were by the clothes of your fellow commuters. Loads of fun :)

I liked Kew garden as my last day's destination.
It was wonderful and relaxing before having to get into a crowded airport to come home.

London to me is a wonderful place of interest,so many sights to see.
I have visited most places of interest over the years .
I could stand in any given place and just watch the world go by.
Last year we visited the Houses of Parliament and Lords with a guided tour.
But I sure wouldn’t want to live there.

Oh indeed, @Tinkerton. England is rolling hills and country lanes, seaside towns and beautiful lakes, historic castles and stately homes. London is quite separate, IMV. ;)

I think that is the case in most countries, the cities are not the country that the ordinary person knows and you need to see the smaller towns and countryside.
But I suppose the cities have the history and the razmataz that lots of tourists look for.

And lots of stuff within a fairly small radius, with easy transport between the places of interest.

That all makes sense @Fat Controller, I just thought that I would mention it. I have found them helpful around here, especially at RHS Bridgewater, which has been constructed so that there is nowhere that you can't get to on a scooter - or if there is, I didn't find it.

Some places are really good at it, others not so much. It never fails to amaze me some of the daft things that some organisations do... for example, I work in the bus industry and whilst I longer drive them, I do assess them from time to time. TfL have just spent a small fortune on a new bus station in Kingston - and the disabled toilet.... is upstairs! You couldn't make it up.
