    I think bronze may have an effect elainefiz. I have a set of bronze (looking at least) pots with various things in, including a hosta, and they never get touched by slugs/snails.

    Thanks - all very interesting, JB I know what you mean, some of my plants are so big it would take quite a sizable ring to get round them. The copper does seem to have done the trick though.

    BM - I regularly split mine up in the autumn and they still make huge plants!

    Waco's picture of the variegated Hosta shows the same plant which I have grown for the last 20 years at least and only once was it attacked . Is it possible that they do not like the variegation? or am I imagining it?
    This year is no different to earlier ones but I may be a bit premature.

    Hi this is my four year old plant which has been very well protected with a copper band around the base.
