It shouldn't have flower buds this time of year. They are deciduous and drop their leaves in winter. It should start back into growth in feb/ march; if there are flower buds they are easily distinguished from leaf buds as they are much fatter.

With regard to your Passion flower Amethyst I agree with Dendrobium- I lost quite a large one of these in Cambridgeshire. My new one is in a pot and has come into a cold GH for the winter. Few will tolerate below freezing temperatures, although some will die right back and regrow the next year. See this site for more information about hardy ones:-

Don't want to disappoint r2oo but if it has flower buds on a 4" stick it probably has no roots!

More likely they are vegetative buds which is what you would want on a plant that size.

read up about the pruning and I'm sure you will get a lot of joy from it. [IMG]

sorry guys misled you all a bit there. they're not flower buds. robably vegetative as you suggested Jazid. There was a fairly substantial root ball for a small Stick so looked promising. Tbh i'm not really expecting it ti flower next year but I thought I would give it a go!
I think I will buy a decent one next year.
