Might seem useless, but without it things really would stand still, you only need a problem and the other roads cant cope either.

I just dont think it gets the maintenance it requires, when it needs it, and why does it take so long to do it?

I must admit, I do enjoy listening to Sally Traffic telling us how the M25 is knackered, again, while I'm in my Volvo tank, purring along, at a steady uninterrupted 60 or 70mph. North/South divide I guess. You get all the wealth, and we get all the stuff that actually works:)

So is he going to give it back then? Or will they have to build a new one?

Don't tell me, let me guess. He took it away on a lorry, which then caught fire. :snork:

Not a lorry, but several years ago I was travelling behind a tractor pulling a trailer load of straw bales when I noticed smoke coming from the top of the load. By the time I had managed to get alongside and flag it down there were flames coming from the bales, but the driver carried on for a bit to get it past some houses and a petrol station before stopping.

I then watched as the fire got worse until he abandoned both trailer and tractor (which also caught fire), the fuel tanks on the tractor exploding. The driver explained to us he was unable to save the brand new 3 week old tractor that had cost a fortune (forget whether it was £30K, £40K, whatever) because he couldn't unpin it from the trailer.

I held back from mentioning that if only he'd mentioned the problem I'd got a sledgehammer in the boot. Not a good time to lose a tractor and trailer in the middle of harvesting.

What, even if the trailer load is on fire, you have to let the fire spread to and destroy a very expensive tractor to ensure you get the money back for both?

Is that the same for artics & trailers?

Good thread to post this brilliant song by Chris Rea, written about the M25

I know he got the inspiration for the song while he was stuck on the M25, but I'm not convinced it is *about* the M25 per se, Val
The jam merely gave him thinking time. If you listen to the lyrics, it is more to do with the financial era as opposed to the actual M25 ;)

He might have been thinking about how many miles per gallon he was getting in constant stop/start conditions, and how that was going to affect his finances.
