Yes she is Moyra, she was a racing greyhound and it`s bred into her to chase any animal that is moving, she will have been wearing a muzzle from a young age, not all the time only when in with other dogs, perhaps in a year or two I will be able to leave it off, she is learning when I say "behave" not to lunge, most times, if she pulls the lead from my hand, and goes after someones yorkshire terrier, I doubt she would hurt it , but she might, and if it was your dog how would you react to seeing her hurtle towards you at 40 + mph. The muzzle does give a sense of well she cant bite my dog.

she looks like she's settled in wonderfully Pam, the girl sure landed on her feet

one of our Bichons Polo (gone to Rainbow Bridge now, bless him) was attacked by a greyhound once, very frightening to say the least.

And that is the response from a responsible, intelligent and selfless dog owner: oh if they were only all so!

And my point has been proved this evening, Dotty a welsh terrier, lovely little dog about the size of a corgi, bought specifically for showing, with his male owner tonight, usually it`s his wife, he let her run round and round us, I am holding Maddie by the collar, she decided to jump up her, and her feet were on Maddies neck, and she had a go at her, if she had not been wearing a muzzle, Dottys showring prospects could have disappeared.
Although that just proves he is a stupid owner who cannot control his dog, I am sure if there had been any blood shed it would have been our fault.

I am so worried about Maddie, took her to the kennels at 2-30 as I have to be away for 2 days, I hope she doesn`t think she has been rejected :cry3:, she has her quilt and I took her food, its a specialist greyhound food, plus her chicken thigh to go on her evening meal. My neighbour next door says dogs have no concept of time. not very reassuring . :dunno:

I'm sure this brief spell will do no damage to your bonding Pam. Is this a new place to her or is it where she was beforehand? If it's familiar and she knows some if the staff there, they will take care of her for you. And this warm spell will make her brief time without you bearable. Not cold, wet , windy and bleak.
Just a couple of days. Think how magic your reunion will be ...:doggieshmooze::imphrt::doggieshmooze:

I took her to a small local kennel that was recommended, with the personal touch, I don`t think the dogs trust would have her back as a boarder, and I thought the opposite, if she had gone back there, it might have made her think she had been sent back.
As you say I am looking forward to the reunion.

Maddie was in a terrible state last night with all the fireworks, she was trying to get behind one of the bedside cabinets, I closed all the curtains and lay on the bed from 6-30, with the t.v. up loud, she was panting and trembling, but she did come up by me after 30 mins, after an hour with no let up I gave her 2 mg of diazapam, she seemed a little less stressed after that, I had to lift her off the bed and practically force her outside at 10-30, so she would be comfortable through the night. this morning she still doesn`t want to go out, but I have been taking her out every couple of hours and she seems to have accepted they have stopped banging now.
As I have no history I don`t know if that was her first experience of fireworks. it`s been raining heavily all day so hope no fireworks tonight, but I think after Saturday to be sure.

sorry to here the fireworks effect your Maddie Pam, & your old boy too Loli, our Snoops the only one who's frightened of them, he was fine for his very first Halloween but then the following year an extremely loud banger went off right over the house, he was in the garden at the time...that was it, the poor wee man petrified from then on :sad:

thankfully they don't effect Freddy nor did they Polo, ah poor ol' Polo spent many a Halloween in his youth up at the bombfire with me watching the firework display....never a bother on him :imphrt:

It would help if people only set them off on the day they're meant to be set off. I can understand delaying a display until a Friday or Saturday evening if it falls on a midweek day, but not every day for a week before and after, it's just not fair on animals

One little tip I was given by a vet some years ago for our on dog who shook like a leaf, was to give him a spoon full of brandy in some warm milk to make him sleepy and it worked. My daughter had a ridge back who was like Maddie,so we would bring her down to Filey with us gave her the brandy(which went down a treat) turned up the tele and she was no trouble.went to sleep,no more problems. She was a lovely dog,but sadly we lost her last year,My dog (in picture)is no problem thank goodness ,just looks up if she hears a loud bang, waits a moment then goes back to sleep.

Feliway (and canine equivalent) are meant to be good, but I've never tried the canine one. Brandy sounds good ;)

Only one lot of fireworks last night, unfortunately very close, so another 2 mgs of valium, and I had got her so settled, we had been to the beach for an hour, and she was visibly relaxing. I had to lift her up again last night to go out, and lift her off the bed this morning.
